I do a lot of hunting in remote areas, I hunt with dogs and they often chase scents well ahead of me. Is there a way one of these handheld GPS's can be set up to track dogs??

Why don't you get one of these 'child-tracker' systems and fix it to their collars? You can buy em on the internet and you can pinpoint the signal transmitted by the chip on the collar? I think I'll fix one to my husband, he goes hunting deer in Margam Park and lamping up the mountain...At least, that's what he SAYS! Lying bugger, I bet he's tracking woodpecker down the pub..

No. The hand helds do not transmit their location and they cannot receive locations of other units.
There are GPS tracking devices that transmitt their signal to a central location so that you can get that information via a cell phone or web browser.
I don't have information on the child locators but there may be some that just send a local signal that you can track via a hand held device that just points you in the right direction. Similar units used to be used for vehicle tracking and surveilance before the GPS based units were available.
