When approach to get married, should he announce that he is gay, and not attracted to females? What if he has very natural flamboyant female characteristics can he give talks at the Kingdom Hall or Assembly or is he not allowed, because he looks and acts gay? If so, aren't Jehovah Witnesses unfair to some?

The bible specifically notes that formerly practicing homosexuals had become Christians in the first century (CE).

(1 Corinthians 6:9-11) Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, ...nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men, ...will inherit God’s kingdom. And yet that is what some of you were. But you have been washed clean, but you have been sanctified, but you have been declared righteous

A new Christian who once felt defined by his sexual inclinations now becomes defined by his intention to serve God and Christ. There is no need to define himself by sexuality again (by 'becoming heterosexual' for example), but he does need to maintain chastity in deed, speech, and thought. While 'thoughts' are between a person and his Creator, the Christian congregation has a responsibility to protect the congregation from ungodly deeds and speech.

Jehovah's Witnesses are not prudes, and well-understand that sexual desire is inherent in being human. Interestingly, Jesus words at Matthew 5:28 would have applied to any combination of genders.

(Matthew 5:28) Everyone that keeps on looking at a woman so as to have a passion for her has already committed adultery with her in [the] heart.

As Jesus implied, a person does well to limit his visual temptations, and to resolve not to fantasize about improper behavior. Further, while Jehovah's Witnesses do not believe the bible to teach that masturbation is a serious sin, they do believe that self-stimulation goes contrary to the best interests of a person hoping to remain chaste.

(Colossians 3:5) Deaden, therefore, your body members that are upon the earth as respects fornication, uncleanness, sexual appetite

Similarly, it may be wise to avoid association with those who insist on discussing topics related to sex and sexuality. Of course, this includes association via suggestive programs on television, films, books, magazines, and the internet.

(Ephesians 5:3) Let fornication and uncleanness of every sort or greediness not even be mentioned among you, just as it befits holy people

(1 Corinthians 15:33-34) Bad associations spoil useful habits. Wake up to soberness in a righteous way

Never forget that Jehovah God is interested in the well-being of his servants. Whether a Christian feels inclined toward heterosexual fornication or homosexual fornication, he can expect that God and Christ will give him the strength to overcome these sinful tendencies.

(Psalm 51:10) Create in me even a pure heart, O God, And put within me a new spirit, a steadfast one.

So-called "effeminacy" does not in itself disqualify a Witness male from being used in any position of responsibility. By contrast, flamboyancy of any kind would seem to be nearly antonymous with modesty. While the congregation has no interest in defining each and every mannerism or speech quality of its speakers, the congregation must maintain dignity and decorum at its public meetings. A speaker who insists on distracting from the bible-based material simply to indulge some affectation likely disqualifies himself from teaching assignments within the congregation.

Sexual images when seen by little kids can mess up their brain’s circuitry. Violent movies “is poison to [his] brain” and so are pornographic materials.

What is prohibited in the Bible is the acts of homosexuality. If the person acts girlishly or boyishly, it doesn’t mean that God doesn’t love them nor would they be given parts in the Christian meetings. It would be hard to reject something that has been a habit for sometime or has become part of the personality. It doesn’t mean that it is impossible to overcome those.

Thru Jehovah’s help and his spirit and thru the help of love ones whom you trust, and not by yourself can you overcome such feelings.

There’s a lot of Bible texts that can help and also you can look at the Watchtower/Awake articles about overcoming those habits.

Jehovah will soon eliminate all pains, sufferings, and sicknesses and heal us of the devastating effects of this system of things. We can look forward to that time.

Hope some of these can help.

1. You cannot have a feeling (emotion) without first having experienced a thought. Make your mind over - Romans 12:2

2. Pray - Psalm 139:23, 24

3. Think of chaste things - Phil 4:8-9

4. Mat 5:30 - get rid of the improper thoughts from your mind as soon as you think about it

5. Pray to Jehovah for his holy spirit, asking him to remove the bad thoughts, emotions, feelings from within you.

6. Get the help of close friends, relatives , love ones to monitor, help and encourage you. Be honest.

7. Bad associations spoil useful habits, don't go to places & avoid people which you know you'll succumb to your weakness/addiction. (Prov 4:14-15)

8. Appreciate the sacrifice Jesus and Jehovah have done for you (John 3:16)

9. Study & apply the Bible in your life everyday. Be busy in the work of the Lord.

10. Know the love of Christ that excels/surpasses knowledge (Eph 3:13)

11. Gal 5:16 - But I say, Keep walking by spirit and YOU will carry out no fleshly desire at all.

Technically, JWs aren't against "being" gay, but simply "acting" gay by performing homosexual acts.

He still probably wouldn't get to give many talks at the Kingdom Hall. Maybe a prayer or too... but not too many, because then people will start to think it's not so bad to "be" gay, and as we well know, "being" gay leads to "acting" gay. They won't want to set that precedent. It would be more of an unspoken thing.

Edit: Correction to Heather above: Michael Jackson WAS a Jehovah's Witness. He was excluded after his Thriller album. (True story)

The man will be counseled to assume his role as a man and engender a family. If he chooses not to, however, as long as he remains faithful to their doctrines and avoids homosexual fornication, he is ok by their standards to participate.

This type of question is asked here often. I have known Witnesses who were effeminant, and happily married to women, I have known masculine men who are not married. If someone doesn't feel attracted to women, ok, move on. I personally am a Christian, one of Jehovah's Witnesses. I am attracted to women, but am not currently pursuing a wife. I imagine their are people in the world who are married but still find themselves attracted to others, what should they do?? As Christians we strive to follow the Bible's teachings regarding marraige. It is between man and woman, this is the ONLY condition for sexual relations. Just as if someone is married but still feels temptations for unChristian activites, someone with homosexual feelings would strive to still serve Jehovah.

Clearly when approached about getting married, it is NO one elses business if this person isn't attracted to members of the opposite gender.

As for "looking" gay, depends on what you mean by that. Clearly as Christians, we wouldn't want to promote unGodly living but simply being raised by single mothers can often cause males to be effeminant, doesn't mean they are homosexuals.

Well He should say that he is gay if he is. He can give talks and so on if he is not gay. Just as long as he isn't gay. We JW's don't judge people. At least in my area we don't. But on some circumstances we will take action. For example, once there was a brother at my fathers hall a long time ago. He was DF/excommunicated becasue he wrote a letter to the Watchtower Society, and told them that they should Allow gays to be JW's or something. So they DFed him. I know it was sad, but gross too. We have to keep Romans. 1:26-27.

If the person is a Jehovah Witness and that person makes it knowen that they are gay, Then chances are that they will be disfellowshiped. Jehovah Witnesses take the bible very literally and will not tolerate any gays into the congregation.

If he had any sense about himself he should leave the witnesses behind and fine his beliefs in something that is congenial to his being gay. Other wise he could find himself with a life full of uncomfortableness, misery and unhappiness.

Jehovah Witnesses like some other religious groups, promote homophobia. Therefore, this gay individual will not have much happiness or acceptability being open in that religion. Bigotry and prejudice have nothing to do with fairness. Sadly, to many religious people, it's more important to promote the anti-gay lifestyle than to follow Christ's commandment to treat others as one wants to be treated.

Yeah.
I can't get over the fact that HARMLESS feelings that come naturally to a person are considered to be so reprehensible.
I can't stand organized religion.
When you think about it, is it *really* anyone's business/concern!?

Messed up on so many accounts.

Even if you don't agree with someone's own personal, preferably healthy way of life, you don't hold them down like that! Not very uh...moral, in my honest opinion.

Heather S

He is not one of Jehovah's Witnesses.

You cannot practice serious sins such and be accepted as a Christian. People know Gods commandments, and all they have to do is follow it.

UPDATE:
Heather S

He no longer claims to be one.. he was one, but not now.
