Could that be step one on the road to peace?
They could all convert and apply for aliyah. Once they get there...well Israel IS a democratic country and treats all its citizens equally and all, so if they later decided they had made a terrible mistake and switched back to Islam or Christianity, what could Israel do except grin and bear it?

Paperback- Please forgive me if I have offended you. The question was asked tongue-in-cheek. Of course, this is not going to happen, but if it did, it would be kind of funny to see the looks on the government ministers faces, wouldn't it?

sly phy- That's part of the point of the question. Actually, the Jews of Arab ethnicity do suffer discrimination already.

----- and sparkle- Sure, the better option.
Sparkle, never say never. No one though Turkey would ever become a Muslim country either, being the seat of Orthodox Christendom. We shouldn't give up hope on the Jews either.

Arthur- It would be done as a ruse, get it? Like a new tactic to get the land back. Everyone would play along with the plan, hypothetically. FYI, it is allowed to renounce Islam with the tongue under extreme duress. I'm not advocating doing this, or that the exception actually applies in this case, just stretching my imagination and hoping you all will come along for the ride.

Paperback- It is not really as simple as that. Yes, Arabs can vote, but they cannot live wherever they want, it is harder for them to get building permits, and they cannot easily visit their relatives in other parts of Palestine, among other problems.

Slave of 12- Hey, I'm proud of you! That's the first time I've seen you say something sympathetic about Muslims. So we are people then, aren't we?

Does anyone see the irony of the fact that people can spend their whole lives in a refugee camp in the Occupied Territories or around the Middle East, but as soon as they hypothetically profess Judaism, they are free to go back to the home that was theirs to begin with! A truly perplexing form of "secular" democracy!

Do you really think that either Israel, or the world, would believe that any Palestinians would wish to be Jewish? Do you think that we are that naive? We see the programmes about us on Palestinian TV and we are left in no doubt as to what many Palestinians think about us.
I'm sure you didn't intend your question to be insulting, but I find it to be so.
ARTHUR - very good points.
EDIT JOHN F - please tell me how, if as you claim 'apartheid' happens in Israel, how it can be that Israeli Arabs sit in the parliament there? That they not only vote but also create policy? That Israeli Arabs have the same rights and freedoms as their Jewish and Christian friends, colleagues and neighbours? If it's so terrible for Israeli Arabs, why are they still there? I'll answer this one for you: because they are treated well in Israel. I met several when I lived out there, so I know this to be true.

Every religious belief is the product of the individual acceptance of the religious theory presented. It is important to accept that religious beliefs and practices are responsible for most of the horrible atrocity historically committed against members of the global population. It continues at this time. Most Muslims would rather eat pork than convert to a different religious philosophy. Your question requests simple supposition from any of us.

I don't think they would be allowed to convert back to Islam. At least, they would not be recognized as truly Muslim by the Muslim community.
All five major schools of Islamic jurisprudence agree that a sane male apostate must be executed.[1]
A female apostate must be either executed, according to Shafi'i, Maliki, and Hanbali schools of Sunni Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh), or imprisoned until she reverts to Islam as advocated by the Sunni Hanafi school and by Shi'a scholars.[2]
P.S. Since you are a Muslim you no longer have a choice to convert to another religion unless you're willing to be worthy of imprisonment or even death unless you choose to become a Muslim again.

I think the only way to peace is for each side to forgive the deaths and pain that they've endured and recognize each other as human beings. I have little or no hope that this will ever happen though.

I do not think that that should occur! - the Palestinians as humans and Muslims lived in that country since the beginning of time! there is no reason for such a drastic measure! they have a right to live there and worship what ever they wish!
I hope the oppression stops ! they are close to my heart!

You forget that one of the fundamental driving forces in any conflict is racism. Palestinian Jews would still be Palestinians. It would be naive to think that this conflict is about religion only.
