I work with a lady who also works at a HOSS's in central PA. She told me that even though her foster parents are her legal parents she was told they could not use her employee family discount since they were not blood related. Does this not seem really wrong to anyone else??? That is like saying your adoptive parents arent your parents.

They had been recieveing the discount for quite awhile. I find the morals of the General Manager of the store wrong and am now refusing to eat there or at any of their other places. They have also been cutting her hours and generally being ignorant to her. As an example she requested off this past saturday for her sisters baby shower that she had to travel 4 hours away for and instead of giving her off saturday they gave her off friday.

I do belive she was permanently placed w/ them since she was with them for years.

Is she an adult? Because, if she is, the foster parents are no longer her legal parents, that only extends until 18. Also, DSS always retains legal custody of a minor that is in the system. So the foster parents may have had physical custody (although unless they were permanent foster parents, it's unlikely) they would not have had legal custody. I'm not saying I agree with the policy, just pointing out a technicality. You called her a "lady" so I'm thinking she is an adult.

Doesn't make sense, but I don't know anything about Hoss. Is she an adult now? She probably found this out from some random manager who arbitrarily made the decision without enough info. It's probably not in the employee handbook or anything: "Employees cannot use their family discount with foster parents." You know?

That does seem very wrong to me. They should indeed be able to use it. They are legally her parents. Blood should not matter. Blood is just a red thing inside our bodies.

that seemsvery wrong to me blood relatives sometimes aren't really "family" I've got friends who are more family than some of my blood relatives.

She should really bring this up at work because it really does not seem right to me.

That's not right. Is it possible she misunderstood the company policy?

This is what happens when you give out "too much information" where you work... people act stupid.
