Why are their more obese people now then there was lets say 30 yrs ago? People ate hamburgers and hot dogs and fast foods then also. Could GM foods be causing obesity in some people? Are these crops that are anywhere from drought resistant to pest resistant to infertile, not breaking down properly in the human digestive system? So many questions. lol

I guess the argument for is that the produce is modified to have more endurance, also some have some sort of pesticidal activity in them, and are modified to enhance attractive features like size or seedlessness. Maybe the ones with the pesticide effect are exposed to less external pesticides or fertilizers?

The con is that modification changes the structure of the produce and we don't know what effect that has on nutrition, safety when it is consumed. Many people have allergies and modifications can introduce triggers into previously safe food, like adding corn, or latex elements. There is no way of knowing what is in modified food because they do not label that. Flavor can suffer in favor of other desired characteristics. Modified food cannot be sold in many markets, like the EU, which ban genetically modified foods.

Natural airborne pollination of modified foods contaminates pure produce too. Montsanto is bringing abusive law suits against the small traditional farmers for infringement where there is inadvertent cross pollination. The law suits alone can ruin the small farmers even if they end up winning at court. This can change the face of farming in America with small farmers being put out of business and only large corporations left.
