As Shanna says, there's no sure way to tell unless there's papers to back it up.
How much does it matter to you? He's no less a dog if he's not a purebred.

Why'd you buy a dog if you don't trust the breeder? Would you buy a car and THEN make sure it has an engine? Your only way to know for sure is if you did your homework and can trust the breeder because other than a DNA test there is no way to make sure. Usually it is pretty obvious just by looks, but even that is not 100%.

Go to the breeder you got your Yorkie from and ask to see the lines of your pup. Every responsible breeder should provide a copy of the sire and dam's bloodlines when they sell a pup.

If the breeder can't provide copies of the bloodline, he is most likely a backyard breeder. But even then, if you still want to find out if your Yorkie is purebred, ask to see the AKC papers of your pup's parents. If your breeder can't provide this, then there's no way to tell if your Yorkie is full-blooded or not.

Did the breeder mention registration? Show you papers for the parents? Did you do any homework on the breeder? Shanna's right it's usually obvious. Unless there is documentation, a dna test is the only way to go.

If it came with registration papers from a legitimate organization like akc, it is probably purebred. If your dog didn't come with papers, or the dog is registered with a organization like apr...it's anyone's guess whether or not the dog is actually purebred.

To be a true purebred, a dog must be registered with the AKC, or kennel club of whatever country you live in.
