I joined the Navy in 1960 with a BA in math with an operations research emphasis. I opted enlisted because I didn't know if I wanted to make a commitment. I went in as an E-3. When I reenlisted 4 years later, having made E-5, somebody rediscovered my degree and recommended me to OCS. So, within 6 years I was an officer. But that's me... and that was Navy.

I may have been able to apply sooner, but I was too busy doing my job to think about it.

I'm not sure where you are in the enlistment process, but can't you change to some officer program? I'd talk to an officer... you might to have to go to the district headquarters. But if you want OCS, you can probably go right into it.

This is a good question. I was in the same situation when I joined the Army. Your recruiter wants to sign you up as enlisted because he dosent get any credit for recruiting you if you go straight into OCS.
You may want to talk to a special Officer recruiter, they are often found near larger college campuses.
But if you do enlist you will have to go to Basic training, and AIT( Advanced individual training) , and then go to your unit. When you finally arrive at your unit speak to your Platoon leader or your Company Commander if he has an open door policy and make it clear that you intend to go to OCS as soon as possible. If your unit is preparing to deploy to Iraq or Afghanistan you may have to wait until the deployment is over before going to OCS. This could take over 15 months.

You can go strait in to OCS after basic. My roommate at BOLC 2 did that. A few years of enlisted service might not be a bad idea though so you know a little more about the Army. Either way you can go to OCS right away. Good luck with your decision and career.

DON'T..get out, and use your degree where it's needed..the last thing the military needs, is another "warrior" who learned all about his job through books and classes..and somehow, delegates those that been around the block a few times what he thinks is best to make him look good.
i've had a marine under me with a BA (e-2), and i treated him like any other junior marine. he got approached by our platoon cammander and asked why didn't he go straight to OCS..his answer: " i'd rather be a real marine first".

Apply for a direct commission in the Armed Forces since you have a college degree.

WHAT!!! Talk to your recruiter. Since you have a degree you should be going straight into Officer school. Don't let the recruiter screw you over. They are clever sons of guns.
