Instead of using Yahoo Answers as charity - why don't you go to charities in your area..Do you have a Salvation Army? Sign your family up and people can buy gifts for you and your kids - kind of like "adopt a family" type thing, it's anonymous to the gift buyers. Or go to your church and explain the situation, they may help out as well.

I feel for you I do...I've been to the point where I've had .99 in my account at christmas time....I got a lot of help to give my kids a decent christmas.

You can contact your local churches, hon, the local family and human services office (welfare) or a community action group in your area.... the electric company might even know of an organization which could help.

Please, don't be "too proud" to accept help with food and your electric, etc... you have FOUR children and apparently living on a shoe string budget (i am too, therefore i understand).

Apply for assistance... perhaps in your financial situation, the State will give you a monthly allowance for food, at least... and they can direct you for help in other areas (such as your electric).

I'm very sorry you are going through this. I understand very well... I hope you get some good answers here, and that you will be able to get through the month.

I'd also like to say that some churches have open food pantries on a weekly basis, where people can just go in and get food, no questions asked... you might have to do some research to find out if there is one in your area.

God bless.

I know just how you feel. Just remember Christmas is so much more than presents. There are a lot of free events given by churchs and community groups around this time. Take the kids to a couple of them. Take some time with just you and the kids and talk about what is really important to you and let them express what is important to them. Life is tough sometimes. Talk to local churches and see if you can find one that has a fund to help people in your situation.

Have you tried Social Services? Do you not received any state sponsored services? What about child support?
Can you get a second job? How about your daughter? Can she get a second job?
If I were in your situation Christmas would not concern me so much... My children and I have seven, would much rather prefer a warm home and loving family opposed to material things. Explain to your kids you are low on money and paying the bills is much more important. Explain to them that you give them love and support everyday and Christmas is about being together with family, love and sharing and when you can afford to you will provide them with a special gift.
I Wish you well.

The utility companies can normally offer assistance and there are programs where you can get gifts.

Most churches will help with house payments, rent and utilities. I highly suggest people from here do not mail in money. There are tons of local places that can help you. You might want to in the future have your kids band with you. They can get jobs and then all of you can pool your money to make things more liveable.

Sorry to hear you are having a tough time. Good luck.

If you're so concerned about your daughter being stressed and worried then you should go out and get a second job. You should be the one stressed and worried, not her.
