Science uses the scientific method of observation and experiment, and has been very successful in discovering and inventing things. Religion is perhaps all a matter of faith and speculation, so it can be hard to define and is not able to be tested in ways like science does with the natural world.

Wow. You have a very obtuse, inaccurate, and intolerant view of history. I'm a doctoral student who has studies the Enlightenment for over a decade, and guess what? Most historians ultimately do not view the middle ages OR the Enlightenment in this way. You are merely cherry-picking history to further an agenda, which makes you equally as illogical and unscientific as the worst of the religious folks you attempt to put down here. I don't deny the harm that some churches and religious beliefs have done, but to ignore the fact that churches and religion provide billions of people with peace, purpose, food, shelter, charity, friendship, comfort, and hope is to illustrate ignorance of history and and even current events. Churches in America, for example, raise literally billions of dollars in charitable donations every year. And I'll give you one really obvious example of how science does not necessarily equal progress or "good:" the atomic bomb. Nothing religious about that. Case closed.

A mater of opinion- materialistic value systems have done a great deal of harm in the the name of God and in the name of progress and reform...
Hospitals and free clinics, public education, abolition welfare,
social service agencies all have their origins in religious organizations.
Greed, cruelty, and other evils haven't their origins in religion they exist in the human heart.
Remove religion and produce a workers paradise? What nonsense.
During the Dark Ages, culture and education flourished in Ireland because of Irish monks.
Yes, dogma and fear and superstition can and do hold us back, but these things exist just fine without organized religion, we just call it bigotry, ignorance, and totalitarianism.

It is hard to understand exactly what you are trying to say and what you mean by the church.
During the dark ages the Catholic church persecuted all the true Christians and the true Christians were the ones who were of the true Church that we read in the bible that Jesus said he will build.

because of the fact of an enhance in our desires' progression. Humanity has developed over many lifetimes; first corresponding to beasts, with desires purely for nutrition, kinfolk, intercourse and safeguard; then arising by way of levels of wealth, capacity, honor and information. on the 1st degree of progression, desires for nutrition, kinfolk, intercourse and safeguard incorporate someone’s purely desires. Even a very remoted person has those desires and tries to fulfill them. desires conditioned by using society’s effect (desires for wealth, capacity and honor) emerge on the subsequent degree. Afterwards, the will for information looks. Sciences flourish as we got down to locate the place each little thing comes from, to locate our roots. The church posed a framework which as quickly as worked, whilst human beings had very small desires. even regardless of the undeniable fact that, whilst peoples' desires bigger; so we see how issues grew to become greater complicated, because of the fact the individuals in touch with church additionally began having to handle greater beneficial desires for wealth, capacity, and honor, and so on. that's not their fault or something, that's merely that needs bigger in them, forcing them to do issues that some might view as "undesirable" with a view to fulfill those greater beneficial desires for funds, honor, and capacity. And we are able to work out how the church additionally replaced its framework to comprise those becoming desires. Then, the will for information relatively did sprout approximately 500 years in the past, interior the Enlightenment (or you are able to say, the Renaissance earlier that). Why did it emerge? because of the fact our previous stages of choose left us unfulfilled, so we began in seek of "what greater can we gain?" Now, technology is likewise attaining a factor of its very own catch 22 situation, gaining information of that no longer something may be mentioned approximately something exterior of someone's theory, and scientists see their very own disaster in describing any sort of exterior phenomena. that's now the era the place the will for information leaves us unfulfilled, and extra and extra human beings the two carry on strongly to ideals, or finally end up dealing with a sparkling, empty area that stands forward human beings. This empty area is titled by using the open questions of "what's the meaning of existence?" "Who am I?" "the place did i truthfully come from? the place am I headed?" "Why is there further and extra suffering interior the international?" the 1st levels of the will for spirituality are sprouting in our section.

Well, when you start with a lie, then force, coerce, or kill anyone who doesn't believe it - those being the most intelligent, of course - then it's hard to accomplish much good. It's a testament to the hardiness of human genetics that any capacity to reason has survived.

You really have to be more specific about "the church". There are MANY MANY mainline churches that are doing ALOT of good, you just are NOT going to hear any of it from the Liberal media! Thus YOU are in the DARK about it!
(pun intended!)
