It can be.

I've known someone that died from an infected tooth that abscessed (not quite the same) and the infection went to his brain. I also had a relative that got pneumonia from poor oral hygiene. He ended up in the ICU for a couple days and had to have surgery to have the liquid drained from his chest. And the infection can also go to the heart. The bottom line is, the gum disease by itself is not the problem, the problem is when gum disease begins affecting other areas.

Even if it doesn't become acutely deadly, and it most likely won't, gum disease is still an infection in your body. You can live with it forever, forever just won't be as long as it would if you get it treated.

Just look at the bottom line: is the treatment for your gum disease cheaper or more expensive than the dentures, and the concomitant hassle, you'll need to replace your teeth when they start falling out.

It CAN be- if not attended to. Our Gums are like "windows" to the rest of the Body... Leave them "open to Infection"- & the NEXT thing you KNOW- all KINDS of trouble breaks all OVER the place... -Blood poisoning, heart disease, staph infections... -You name it! :(

Yes, it can be. The poisons from the disease go throughout your body, infecting it. It needs to be taken seriously....

It just means that you must take good care of your teeth and mouth. You may have to get your teeth pulled but I have never heard of anyone dieing from it.
