my cousin has had glasses forever. but now he wants contacts. how does it work? I have 20/20 vision so I don't know much about contacts. any info would help...like how much it would be...the thing I am confused about is order-in contacts. don't you need a prescription from your eye doctor to get contacts? not just some random company ?

Yes, you have to have a prescription. Your cousin will have to go an eye doctor and get fitted for contacts, they have to be made specially for your eyes just like glasses do. Once you have the prescription, you can use it to order your contacts from 1-800-CONTACTS or whatever, just like taking your medicine prescription to the drugstore.

As far as cost... I think I usually pay about $25 for a box containing a three-month supply of two-week-wear contacts.

Yes, you need a prescription. The "order in" businesses will verify the prescription. If its not valid they wont give them to you. The only exception being colored lenses that you can buy uncorrected (nonprescription) just for the change of eye color. The price depends on what brand and weather he would need toric (for astigmatism) lenses which are weighted at the bottom or regular lenses. Toric are more expensive. Colored lenses are very expensive, 60-100+ for one pair.

Your best bet would be to see the optometrist or local eye doctor. He/She will test the patient's eyes and he will write a prescription for contacts upon request. He/She will the refer you to a specialist or ceritified person who can produce the suitable contact lenses. He should be able to give you a rough estimate as to what they will cost. They also cost to maintain in terms of cleaning solution and storage.

I don't think there is special exam, the optometrist just needs to make sure contacts don't bother your eyes. The prescription for contacts and glasses are the same.

Uh go to your optometrist, that's the best. They'll recommend you and tell you where you can get them at for how much. And they'll write you a prescription of your vision so they know what contacts to get you.

tell him that he needs to go to his optometrist, ask for contacts. They will messure his eyes, it doesn't hurt, and they will have him try on different brands and styles of contacts. If he likes them (they take some time to get used to), he can go back or just tell them while he's at the office and they will discuss payment plans with him.

You are putting something in your eye. You may want to talk to a doctor, first.

I tried conctacts. Did not like them, and went back to glasses. Much easier to deal with glasses.

Some peple have luck with them. Good luck.
