It's a matter of opinion. .Theres still a lot that Vista isn't compatible with so. .My choice would be XP for now at least.

As an operating system both treat me about the same. Every now and then I can't find an option in Vista that I would know exactly where it was in XP, but you can hardly hold that against it. I like Vista because I get the latest support for my DirectX 10 games, but you sure won;t find me complaining about my typically solid WinXP workstation either.
Vista for the cute bells and whistles. XP for the familiarity.

XP Pro. I tried Vista and it's cool but not all software I depend on can work with it yet. So, I stick with XP first until I have an updated software for Vista and MORE RAM!

XP Preferred - You could dabble with Vista if you can afford it and not worry that your rights are given away!
Remember - everyone forgets - Vista has DRM and who knows - what's in the background - monitoring your every move with Vista!
Overall - XP isn't broke yet - so, there's no reason for me to upgrade everything - including hardward - a huge expense for game players - just for Vista!

Hi. I have tried both. Depends on what you are used to. Most folks now will never even see Win XP Pro (my OS of choice).

If you like to game, stick with XP for a while. Vista takes up wayyyyyy to much memory.
