I have been off of work for 1 month due to depression, I am going back to work tomorrow and I am sure there are going to be a lot of questions about were i have been. How should I answer them?

Simply tell them that you just wanted to take some time off to relax, refocus, and de-stress. I'm not sure how stressful your job is but "stress" is a term any American person should understand.

They may want to ask what exactly you did and that is when you can get creative: went to see Aunt Mary in another state, etc. Just make sure its a place you're familiar with! *lol* But really you don't owe them any major explanations -- even if they get pushy/nosy!

Stick with the truth - but keep it to a "need to know" basis.

Do say you have had health problems - it's taken awhile to get back on your feet and to be able to work. You're under Dr's care.
You'll give your work your best try, but it's going to take time to be back to full steam, you need to pace yourself. Concentration is somewhat difficult right now.
No it's not contagious. I'd rather not go into it.

Hmmm, good question. Maybe say you've been off taking care of a sick relative. Let them know by your actions (w/o being rude) that you prefer no more questions.

just say you've had stuff going on at home that you had to take care of. if they press the issue just say its personal and/or you'd rather not talk about it
