for those asking, my mom says it's trashy to not wear a shirt... i mean, i don't know.........

just so everyone knows... i do respect my mother's wishes, and she really is the last word, and maybe that's all that matters...

i mean, i am male but i'm a feminist too, like we males did keep women down for so long, i guess even if it does seem unreasonable...

i don't know. thanks for all opinions so far...

Absolutely! It's safer too. Less chance of strangulation. Tell your mom THAT.

As far as is it okay, a lot will depend upon a) if you are alone, or b) what the feelings are of others if you're not. There are actually very few times when a male need to worry about whether he has a shirt or not (such as in a church). Females are enjoying getting the rules lightened up on them in some areas, also. For instance, some states are passing laws that specifically protect a woman from any sort of legal harrassment if she needs to bare her bosom to breastfeed, and in NY it's actually protected by law for women to be able to ride upon the subway topless because men can.

With all that said, some families have their own ideas about what is proper and what is improper. As long as you are living with your mom, it doesn't hurt to follow her rules (it's her house). But once you're out on your own, don't be afraid to do what you want, especially when it comes to harmless personal choices such as wearing a shirt to bed. You'll find you'll be happier with yourself, and I've found that if you're taking care of yourself your girl may actually like the shirtless look sometimes! :-)

Tell mom it shouldn't matter, like everyone said already, you're sleeping. What, does she share your bed? There's nothing even relatively offensive or 'trashy' about a man without a shirt. I'm a girl living in my parents' house and I usually sleep topless. Unless it's cold in my room, and even then, that's what comforters are for. Mom does have a place teaching you etiquette, but sleeping without a shirt on is not something to be concerned about. Just be comfortable, man. And remember, either way, you won't always live with mom.

I personally feel its ok to sleep however you are the most comfortable. I too thought if your door is closed and you do not share a room you should be able to sleep without a shirt, anyone walking into that room invades your privacy. You could try to talk to mom and explain your feelings to her but in the end mom's house moms rules. (My personal opinion is this is a somewhat outdated attitude.)

I think it's okay for a guy to do that. Since your mom doesn't like it you can sleep with your door closed and then put a shirt on when you wake up. I think it's kind of strange that your mom is saying it's "trashy", but that's just my opinion.

There is no set rule for wearing or not wearing a shirt to bed. I sleep with a shirt on sometimes if its cold then other times I sleep without it. Like someone else said it's all about you and being comfortable.

You're not "allowed"????? How old are you, that you need to ask for mommy's permission to sleep as you please!?!? COME ON...... maybe for HER it's trashy, but you don't sleep with her so she can keep her opinion to herself............... I suppose you have your own room and privacy, so you can perfectly wear your shirt around the house so as to nor make your mom or anyone else uncomfortable, and then go to your room when bedtime comes, close the door, take your shirt off and go to sleep...... then when you wake up you put it back on, open the door and walk out of the room and no one needs to know you slept shirt-less....... right?? No one has the right to tell you what to do or not.... you have your own opinion and you're free to do whatever feels better or suits you best. I sometimes sleep naked, but I live alone..... however, I've done that at my mom's house too, but of course get dressed again before coming out of the room and she doesn't need to know that I slept commando...!!!! None of her business anyway.

While you are in your mother's home, you have to abide by her wishes. But when you are on your own, you can sleep in anything you want -- or nothing at all. I personally don't think it's trashy to want to sleep without a shirt.

It's perfectly acceptable to sleep without a shirt on. I sleep in the nude, and my parents gave up on it a while ago. I mean, you're not sleeping with your mom (or anyone else?) so why would it be trashy? Does she expect you to shower in your swim shorts?

i think it's fine, but i wouldn't if i was a guest at someone's house and had to sleep on the couch in the living room. also if i was a guest- and maybe in your situation too, i wouldn't come out into public areas of the home without a shirt on. hope this helps

I personally see nothing wrong with sleeping topless in your own bed in your own room.

If you are sharing the room, that is a different kettle of fish. I personally do not think seeing a bare male chest is tacky.
