well, i'm pretty good at naming critters but i have to know a little about them, at least what color and what gender.
for instance my ol' girl cat's name is Freida Needlefeet. i had a squirrel named Philbert Limbleaper and a doe fawn named Dana Lottadots. (i do wild animal rehab)
i think you should hold off naming your new friend until you meet him/her. your new friend will likely inspire you to chose the perfect name.

I like Mischeif best - if it's a boy you could call him Cheif for short and if it's a girl you could call her Missy. As for waiting until you actually get a kitten to see its personality prior to deciding on a name... I did that and my kitten ended up named "Mitten." We took so long trying to decide on a name and kept calling her Kitten. She started responding to Kitten (now she comes running when we say it) so we had to come up with a name that rhymed with it. So, moral of the story, either choose a name beforehand or choose one shortly after getting your kitten. Don't rely on personality names too much because a kitten's personality develops and changes until it is about 4 months old.

What I like to do for names are pick dictionary words, which meanings are important for the situation. I have also been looking for cat names. If you're only getting one kitten make sure to spend time with it. I would consider getting a pair so they can have a constant playmate. =D (They are amusing to watch.)
Calamity
Chaos
Crisis
Collision
Catastrophe
Adversity
Affliction
Aphotic (I actually had to look this up, it means without light; lightlessness.)
Fate
Those are some names which mean something to my cats new kittens (situation wise.) Maybe they will help?

Mischief is a good name as long as you spell it correctly. However if you are going to name a cat before you get it, it's probably best to give it a regular name, because "Shade" might imply that it was dark, and the kitten might be white, etc. I named my cat Joey.

Both names are yucky! Sorry. Give the cat a real name - like a human name. If it's a female, name it Maya. If it's a male, name it Max.

I personally have to get to know a cat before I name it. My mom works in cat and dog rescue and my parents have quite a few cats and I have named most of them after I got to know them.
Including Richard, Stanley, Ginger, Simon, Lucy, Gracie, Penny, Emma, Boris, and Chester.
