Yea, windows vista have very bad backward compaitablility. If you want to play games that are only for XP, why couldn't you set the application for XP capable?? Right click on the main exe file for the game you have, and select properties. Then go to the compaitability tab and select Run Program in compatibility mode for: and then chose Windows XP (Service Pack 2). Don't forget the press Apply! Now try and run the game. Another thing is that 64-bit OS have very bad support for 32-bit application, i hope this compaitability will be fixed as well.

I am an IT specialist with the U.S. Government, and Vista won't be installed on most government PCs for at least 1-2 years from now. The reason is because Vista SUCKS!
Computer companies are really pushing Vista right now, because Microsoft wants consumers to work out all the bugs for them. Well, sometimes they don't tell you... but there are really good newer versions of XP available(XP SP2) that kick Vista's a**.
If you can afford it, buying XP and replacing the Vista would take care of your operating system headache(s). Sorry for your misfortune, good luck!

Not at all. There are many souls out there which have the same feelings about Vista as you have.
Look at www.badvista.org for like minded souls.
Windows is unlikely to do things to fix your problems. Instead, it could bring a newer set of problems to you.
Consider using live.linux-gamers.net or Knoppix or Ubuntu live DVDs. linux-gamers is built with gamers in mind. Others have some good games as well. Anyway, I can't help if you feel attached to a game that is exclusively available on Windows.

There are millions out there who have been dissatisfied with Vista and have downgraded to XP. At work, we have not yet moved to Vista and after a number of evaluations by key personnel, we have decided to wait until at LEAST service pack 1 of Vista is released. In the media, I've read that Microsoft will be releasing a newer OS with many of Vista's more annoying "features" removed.

I absolutely hate Vista and agree with you completely. Here's a way that might just fix some of your game problems. Right click the icon for the game or where ever it's located and choose the option to run as administrator. If that doesn't work, right click to open the options again and go down to properties. Once that opens, click on the compatibility tab and choose run in xp compatible mode, then try the other modes in that box if that one doesn't work. And finally, try adding the run as administrator to any of those compatibility modes. I can get the majority of my games to run in xp mode or 98 with administrator. It's annoying, but necessary.

Vista replaced right into a try OS, for brand spanking new effective factors popping out interior the subsequent one. They did o.k. when you frolicked customizing it, and it did have some fancy effective factors. whether it replaced into terrible with video games and specific previous high priced classes, like playstation . I used it for some months earlier setting up a stable reproduction of XP professional over it. Been happy considering the fact that.

Personally, I think Vista is just another way for Windows to try and exploit their consumers. From my experience, Vista is slower, buggier, less compatible, and more expensive than XP (my dad has Vista on his laptop, and mine has XP, and mine is soooo much better). So you definitely arent alone in thinking Vista sucks. My college plans on upgrading all the laptops in the school to Vista next year though, but I'm hoping I can somehow sneak by with my XP intact :-D

Well it's not just Vista, it's also the fact that you got the 64 bit version. 64 bit OSes have compatibility problems with 32 bit applications. I'm actually not too fond of windows period. I recently switched to ubuntu Linux, it's free and can do pretty much anything you'd want and OS to do. Games, music, videos, internet, office software, video editing, dvd ripping. And 99% of the software for it is free.
Check this video out, it'll convince you to switch:

Currently, I think Vista looks great, but is pure bloatware. I have to assume though, that it is geared more for tomorrows computers (quad core 4GB RAM pc's of tomorrow).
I'm sure Microsoft doesn't want another OS that takes years to upgrade, so they probably put a lot of thought into tomorrows needs, but until super computers come to the home, yes, it's to big and slow for my taste. I will stick to WXP and a P4! :)
