The bible says to repent. How do you? what verses tell you how? not the ones that tell you to repent.

Repentance, or contrition, is
+ Sorrow of the soul
+ Hatred for the sin committed
+ A resolution not to sin again

Contrition is the most important act of the penitent, and is necessary for forgiveness

Here is a common Catholic prayer of Contrition:

My God,
I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.
In choosing to do wrong
And failing to do good,
I have sinned against you
whom I should love above all things.
I firmly intend, with your help,
to do penance,
to sin no more,
and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.
Amen.

With love in Christ.

The bible says in proverbs that open confession is good for the soul. I agree with the first guy if you are catholic.

We cannot be united with God unless we freely choose to love him. But we cannot love God if we sin gravely against him, against our neighbor or against ourselves: "He who does not love remains in death. Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him." Our Lord warns us that we shall be separated from him if we fail to meet the serious needs of the poor and the little ones who are his brethren. To die in mortal sin without repenting and accepting God's merciful love means remaining separated from him for ever by our own free choice. This state of definitive self-exclusion from communion with God and the blessed is called "hell."
