This is what I will remember Pope John Paul II most for:
1) He wrote that I was a part of a group which comprised one of the three greatest evils of mankind.
2) He also distributed a document which stated that I have a serious inclination towards evil.
And this was REGARDLESS of how I lived my life.
He said the above about gay people.

Wasn't he the dude that died after like thirty days in office?
Probably the only thing I will never forget is that he was the last Italian pope the Catholic Church elected, after a long (i.e. 400 year) string of Italian popes.
Of course, there's only been two Popes since, so it's not exactly a major trend.

He was a great traveller, the true spirit of an Apostle is there itinerant nature, like Jesus who had no where to lay his head. This great man visited more countries and opened up the Papacy to the world, bring the holy Mass to many people, his funeral for example, did not diminish the holy Mass by being broadcast world wide, or did it?

That he crushed liberation theology and turned his back on Latin America in the 1980s while brutal dictators funded his coffers.
How many remember he barely said a word when nuns were raped and murdered in El Salvador, and Bishop Romero was gunned down by rightwing death squads?

His smile and wave. Oh yea, the PopeMobile too. I sure liked that guy. He could speak a lot of languages, which I have a great respect for.

For one thing, he went to visit the guy who shot him -- and forgave him. That's an example of Christian mercy and forgiveness that we can all look up to and draw strength from.
