DvD Coversion File type quality?

My Kids Have so many dvd cartoons well most are like pokemon dragon ball z well you know what the kids are into these days, I dont allow my kids to handle the movies since they dont fullyunderstand about not how to take care of them, I am using a program called magic dvd copier/ripper, and noticed i had the option of converting the files to like MP3 or MPEG2 MP4 IPOD apple Tv Zune and so on, And i thought about hey could i convert the files to mp3 and fit more movies on one DVD save disc more convient for the kids, and was wondering will DVD except MP3 movies or MPEG2 since the file format is smaller and curious about the quality. and Ideas what greatly be appreciated, the kids will have there own dvds they can have and if they tear them up wich is gonna happen i can just then make another copy, I own the DVDs so I am not Ilegally copying them. I am tired of having to repurchase movies they like and would like to just burn another copy to replace the damaged one, seems smarter

In theory what you want to do sounds wonderful, but in all actuality it is illegal still.
Now as far as changing the Format you can do that as well but remember the player you have may not PLay it.
