could anybody tell me what some good martial arts are that practice: joint manipulation, throws, holds/locks, quick knock outs(ie, vulcan nerve grip, yes I know its just from StarTrek). Preferably something where i could block a punch, and then transition into a joint manipulation or throw. any ideas, also, weapons training, mainly knife-like or bo/stick would be good to. I'm not looking for something that focuses on tradition, kata, and self control, I had enough of tradition and kata in karate, and as for self controll, well, I've got a pretty good handle on that. I'm interested in something practical. thanks everyone.

Sounds like you just totally described AIKIDO. It is one of the best and it actually WORKS IN REAL LIFE SITUATIONS. Look into it, you will be happy you did.

I think you would best be served with Systema

There are no katas or anything like that at all. It gives you the tools to basically create your own personal martial art.

hapkido is also a very good art that seems to fit your needs. they also do weapons training. however, all arts have tradition. and i dont count the extreme reality based self defense things as arts. there's nothing artistic about gouging out someone's eyes. although, if you are looking for something practical, maybe krav maga. that's always good.

If you really had a good handle on kata, you would already have all the skills you seek.

You see... they are all in your kata.
