To a point yes...but Salvation through Jesus Christ is totally different from religion..

No, I do not agree. Religion is too broad a spectrum of human enterprise to sum up in such a simple and brain-dead way. Some religious belief is like "brainwashing." And some religious belief is deeply held for well-considered reasons by serious people.

Some guy sitting on his roof waiting for the rapture? Yeah - might be a bit brainwashed.

A Jesuit astronomer slash theologian, contemplating God as he studies the stars in an observatory? Probably not in the least brainwashed.

A statement like "religion is really just brainwashing" is one of the more weak-minded brainwashing-like statements that opponents of religion sometimes utter, reductio ad absurdum.

When a home or school follows by a simple religion, and is forced, or amountiful force, it is therefor brainwashing.

People have the right to believe in whatever they want, and while saying 'I pledge... to the flag... One nation, UNDER GOD..'
While most people dont really think about it while saying it, most religions are being brainwashed inside our minds as we are young children.

Depending on your enviroment, and your ways of life, you may say different. But, most places in America, do have brain washing traits when it comes to religion.

Well its definitely a form of control but one could reason that based on what religion it teaches you basic morals. If that is brainwashing then it happens as a culture as well as from a religion.

No, not brainwashing, I think people make up religion so that they have something that explains the unknown.

Yes. I believe a lot of it is made up to keep society in check- but after being a "Christian" for half my life and then reverting to an Atheist- I am now starting to believe once again there is a God. I just don't want to follow what the PEOPLE say- it's the feeling that God gives your SOUL!!!

I think religion is a business just like any other. Or mybe like a certain club. But it definitely was created by man. There is a big difference between religion and being spiritual.
So I'd have to say in a way its brainwashing with permission

No, and I'm not religious. I think that if you choose to worship a God and it gives you comfort in hard times and just in daily life then why should anyone stop them...

when it comes to devoting your whole life to satisfy God, and your entire existence is based on that, that's where I call it brainwashing.

I think it's very wrong to drill it into children's head that everything is wrong. Listening to anything besides Christian music is wrong, watching harry potter is wrong, dancing out of fun is wrong. teaching your children about abortion at the age of 5, telling them to pledge allegiance to the bible... and so forth...

it's wrong to influence children that are so young, they should be able to have normal child hood and play and pretend to shoot each other and play house...

watch jesus camp.... that made me sick.... kids young kids 8, 9, 10 and young are crying because they think our world is a hell, and that people are sick. and they walk around spewing nothing but religion. They are crying over abortion, when the reality of it is, the parents aren't teaching them that sometimes abortion is necessary to save a life, or it's a womans right to abort the baby whether it be of choice or because of rape or incest. the kids aren't being taught both sides, they are only being taught that everything is wrong and a sin...

these kids will never have friends outside of their faith because not every child wants to pray before they play with a ball or swing, thanking the lord for this toy they are playing with...

it's BS....

watch jesus camp... i wish people like that would be shipped to their own island...

religion in general is ok as long as you don't preach it and let it rule everything in your life...

No, religion might serve as a basis for community. Many religions support the development of society. Some religious sects have some criminal members who preach hate. These religious sects try to increase their membership by attracting other people haters.

Do you believe in the pink invisible unicorn ?
She is pink, and invisible.
You need faith to understand she can be both.

OR brainwashing, just like any religion.

Pretty much.
Origin of religions was of course the primitive mind trying to explain the unexplainable.

Eventually someone realized that they could control the masses with the word of the ultimate being behind them.

Now-a-days, well pretty much the same thing...it is supposed to give people hope but it is still very much used to control people in other countries.
