I am 100% sure the first human with a brain smart enough to understand the concept did not believe in a diety.

Only narrow-minded people who base their own beliefs on one collection of myths (collected by many different unverifiable people among many centuries) believe that the world was created along with religion. Religion was created after and as an answer to human nature's inherent curiosity and incapacity to comprehend the complexity of the world (nature) around it. Without scientific knowledge, simple questions like "who am I? where did I come from? etc. could be most easily answered by a magical, all-knowing, all-powerful force. When humans became intelligent enough to understand death in its finality they desperately searched for some other conclusion to life..... the afterlife! With the afterlife came religion, meaning and hope. Later, religion was perverted to manipulate and control the weakness (the simply curious desire for the truth) of mankind. Just look at the history of the catholic church. Actually, if you take the word atheism (without god) literally, it began around the year 4000 bce, before the bible existed. Before the current day "God" existed in the minds of people, the Greeks and Egyptians believed in numerous "gods" and "titans". To reiterate the other posts, theism is one of man’s great creations; atheism is mankind's natural state.

this is my best guess
probably during the rise of capitalism. once business got booming in the 13 colonies or something, people lost focus of religion and thus eventually there was the renaissance of religion or something.
so from this when people lost focus, some probably just stopped caring and then had kids with no religious upbringing which probably lead to them not believing in god or having a hard time believing it because it wasnt it implanted into them from when they were growing up.
once again its a guess.
part of it also had to deal with in europe when people wanted to know how something worked and not just cause god said so. they were like "okay I know he made this, but I want to know how" and eventually somebody realized that the bible wasnt really accurate (Galileo) and since scientists were more convinced by facts than theories(bible), well then you can kind of guess where this is going.

Atheism is a defensive position. It begins when you start questioning supernatural explanations and start seeking and finding natural ones. There is an excellent movie that shows how religions are derived from natural observations which are then turned into spiritual mumbo jumbo because they were initially not understood: http://zeitgeistmovie.com/

Atheism has always been around, even during the times of religions. Only difference was that atheists were oppressed, or forced to convert. And there ya go.

The English word atheism is between four and five hundred years old. Obviously atheism itself has always existed.

The world was created with religion? That is real news. For your information, religion was invented by man. Think about it.

You have it backwards...
Some witch doctor Hebrew shaman wandering with his primitive tribe in the middle-east, invented the whole Genesis thing...and pretty much all the stories that follow that in The Old Testament, through word of mouth campfire stories designed to teach children (and some adults) proper behavior...they were originally myths and legends about creation and the genealogy of the hebrew people to give them a sense of purpose and hope...
Later, the whole thing became a "religion..."
Take some upper division History courses in college, please...

hmmmm ...... the world was created without religion. Later some idiots tried to control others by claiming himself to be the spokeperson of some supreme creatures and attribute everything unexplainable to it / them.
Then some greater idiots buy that idea and pass down the idiocies to their descendants.

It started in the Garden when a snake told Eve that it's okay to eat of the forbidden fruit, because you can become better than God.
Those same snakes exist today in the form of "enlightened humanist minds" and "open-minded reasoning" (aka atheists/humanists).
