They didn't ask that when I was in court. I was asked to 'affirm' that I would tell the truth.

They give you a different oath to tell the truth by (If you're an atheist), if you still say no, they remove you from the stand. I think it goes something like this, but I'm not 100% sure, i've only seen it once...

"By your own values and morals that coexist with the laws of the State of , do you swear to tell only the truth on this stand during this trial (or preceeding)"

Swearing to tell the truth by a God oath is not required. Neither is using a Bible to swear for those of you who are uninformed on the matter.

I have given testimony in legal cases. The court does not require you to swear to god. They require you to swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. No gods required.

I never say no to that.
