as others have already said: runes have power. Be very certain of what exactly you are putting on yourself permanently. If you're wiccan, you'lll understand that by marking yourself with blood (which tattooing is, in a way), you create a very strong invocation. You don't want to bring the wrong sort of an attention to yourself permanently.

I have two runes tattooed on my forearm. I did it myself in a very difficult and chaotic time in my life, and after that it got better. But I knew the runes very well even before that, I was using them for divination on a daily basis and I had a deep bond with them. I knew it was the right thing for me to do.

Another interesting thing, though - just to prove that an action like that DOES influence your life and interacti with it:
One of the two runes I have is Ansuz (communication, advice, power of words, wisdom, the Aesir, Odin). It was an immense help with my exams. After I finished university, though, I entered a period in my life that I didn't really have much control over. I just let myself go and see where it took me. And the bottom horisontal line of the Ansuz paled almost completely, leaving it a Laguz (water, going with the flow).
After that, the top horizontal line faded too, and it became an Isa. (Ice, frozen situation). My life wouldn't budge an inch and I was starting to get really sick and fed up with everything. It took a long time to break that ice.
Now the two lines are back and my life is flowing nicely again.

So, once again - be careful. Runes have power, they all have multiple meanings and IT DOES matter in which direction they are turned. Study them well before you make this decision.

You'll find that Asatru and Anglo-Saxon heathens frown on others using the runes, especially for "alphabet" reasons but they are open to anyone wishing to have them.

I would ask that you research the runes (and DON"T read Ralph Blum!) so you are very aware of the energies of the rune you are getting tattooed. They weren't originally an alphabet - they are symbols of energy and power and each one is different.

Thurisaz is not a good luck symbol!!!

Odin hung on the World tree for 9 days and nights, stabbed in the side by his spear to win the knowledge of the runes in a shamanistic rite.

Asatru and Anglo-Saxons tend to be protective of casual use of the runes.

Tyr has a sturdy advice - replacing the rune from this is unique kind will disrupt the skill. And to others, burning or burying genuinely can launch the skill, sending it out and dealing. a lengthy time period spell might want to be very efficient by ability of burying a piece of timber with runes. "As this timber returns to the earth, may those runes launch.........." in case you want a time decrease on a spell/operating - comprise that. "For the span of one finished moon to the subsequent....." etc.

Not all Asatru use the runes for magical purposes. I use it as the alphabet. *shrug* That being said, I would recommend researching what you are tattooing on yourself. I would hate for you to accidentally curse yourself in permanent ink. *G*

I think it's your body and you should not worry what others think about what you choose to adorn it with. Also, try not to fit inside a religious box. God is everywhere. Blessed be.

it depends on the rune that is being used, and it also depends on your religion if it is ok
