Old Fashioned way? I've heard they used #2 pencils, tax forms and brains. By doing that way actually helps tremendiously in terms learning and understanding. These days tax software does most most of the math, deduction, exemption, credits and brings necessary forms.

There's an old computer term--garbage in, garbage out.

I'll use a computer program to double check my math and allow me to what ifs without redoing all the math by hand...but I can still do a tax return by hand if I had to and I certainly won't submit an electronically generated tax return until I've review the printed pages. It is *extremely* easy to answer yes to a no question and get completely different results than expected.

With pencil and paper. The paper forms are available at most libraries.

Some people still do them this way. Old habits are hard to break.

When I was growing up. My dad did them this way every year. It usually took him from early February until the end of March to complete them.
