I'm angry too! I don't want my kids playing with toys that come from China and everything I look at has that name on it! I have a line set up on my computer telling me everytime a new recall on a toy comes through so that I can watch out for my children. I'm very unhappy with the China situation.

China is presently known as the factory floor of the world. Almost everything is getting manufacture there, not only because the labor is cheap but since the materials are rather cheap as well.

You can boycott China but if you'd look carefully at all the things you now use, it is most likely that most of them come from China.

It is not China per se who is at fault here. There may be an errant supplier or two but the fault of a part is not the fault of a whole.

If the quality controls are properly in place, both in China and anywhere else that their goods are shipped to, substandard goods will not be found at all.

Of all the goods and products made in China, only less than a fraction of a % were recalled. Not bad. And of those that were recalled, the vast majority were faulty due to improper instructions from the company placing the orders (Mattel is the most obvious one, but not the only one...). Basically, a small percentage of Chinese products were found unsafe and the products being recalled are isolated cases. China's production standards are usually similar to international ones.

By the way, do you know how many safety recalls there are in North American-made cars?

Why do we keep buying from China? Simple. The great majority of products that come from China are safe. The news media does not report all the safe imports from China that we get nor does it make a big deal about recalls of American made products. Plus, Chinese goods are often cheaper than American made products and there is no financial impetus to cause American retailers to stop buying from China. Even though they have to recall goods, they still make a profit. I am sure, though, that there are stricter methods of product testing being put into place in order to keep from getting faulty products.

I have already boycotted everything that's "Made in China". Nowadays if I see anything that is MIC, I would immediately put it back on the shelve and walked out of the shop. It doesn't matter how much I like the product, I would NOT buy it.

It's easier here as I can get a lot of products that are not MIC as the locally made goods are equally if not better than those in China. At least, I know that I am not getting lead tainted toys or "poisoned" milk for my child!! As for clothing, I usually get it from Zara as most of them are made in Portugal or Mexico. Food??? Never touched anything from China!!

Think yourself lucky! I live in China and if you think the stuff you buy in the west is crap you should see the stuff here. Yes Chinese stuff is cheap but there is a reason. Use it once and throw it away. If you want to have continued use buy western made products. You pay a little more now but it will last a life time and that makes it cheap!

the recalls for the toys isn't all China's fault. Matell had faulty instructions... MATTEL were the ones who told them to put the lead in the toys. Also, if you wanna be so ignorant then don't buy stuff from China. Go ahead and buy $20 hotwheel cars.

sadbrown -- If you're angry put your anger in the right place. The US corporations not only out-sourced the jobs but are SOLELY responsible for their products. Not only are they incredibly money-grubbing, they are incredibly incompetent. Mattel issued a public apology to China for the image hit it took for something that was Mattel's fault. Believe me, the US corporations are enjoying the tax breaks Dubya has given them and THEY don't give a dang about your kids. China just makes and ships the stuff.

Because importers find their products very cheap and they can make bigger margins and profits selling made in china products than elsewhere.

Matter of making more money. Blame the importers for not checking on quality.

Large corporations make larger profits having their products made from the slave labor and inferior materials. As long as we're OK with this, companies will keep supplying us with this junk. If we'd blow a couple extra bucks and start buying products made here, companies would be forced to move their companies back. But, the majority of folks are happy with crap, so that's what we'll keep getting.
