Is meeting someone in person that you only know from an online dating website safe? How would I meet him when we're on opposite sides of the US?

It's safe just so long as you're careful. When it comes to the internet, you should always keep your safety in mind. Get to know this person first, over the net, then move to phone calls for a while. If you still want to meet them, it might take some time to save up for the trip since you're so far apart. You could try meeting halfway at a city you both decide on, or, have them come to a nearby city & stay at a hotel, just to be on the safe side. But no matter what, just be sure not to see them alone whenever you do meet them. Choose a public place & bring along some friends or family.

There's pros and cons to this. My advice is to use caution...always. In your case though, since you are each on opposite sides of the US find someplace in the middle that you feel comfortable with. If you are sensitive about traveling alone, take your friend or sister with you. When it comes time to meet this guy, pick a relatively busy location like a restaurant or something. Ask your friend or whoever you choose to take with you, to sit a few tables away and that way if anything crazy starts to take place she can interrupt and pretend to be an old friend from high school and then just start talking to you like you are long lost buddies. Always have an escape plan in mind and always tell others about your plans. Never go someplace without first notifying someone else about it, that way if something happens they know a place to start looking for you.

it can be safe --- meet in a public place and have a coffee or soft drink it does not matter (just dont leave the drink alone) --- and talk see if he is the guy you thought he was --- if he is and you get on well then maybe a meal and build up from there --- as far as travelling its not that far really --- if he is interested he will come over to meet you ---- if you are not able to meet then how do you think a relationship would go when you dont place even that much importance on each other??? ---- best wishes

I would be very careful. Start out with phone conversations. Then if you want to meet, do it in a very public place and bring along a few friends. Opposite sides of the u.s. very hard. you would have to meet somewhere maybe a vacation site. Anyway always bring some friends with you just in case. You never know who is on the other end of the computer.

If both of you love each other, then location is not a problem. My friends met a gentleman from canada thorugh a millionaire dating site called millionairecupid.com. Now they are happily married. So I just think, the only problem is whether you love each other deeply.

Don't do it since you're too far apart.
