Yes, it was my fault.
I was in a rental. I had the extra insurance coverage on the rental that just covers damage to the rental vehicle.
The passenger sideview mirror came off my rental, but I was able to pop it back in.
The other vehicle was an old truck. It has a long scratch on the cargo bed and some indention of the sheetmetal.
The other guy has my insurance info. I really hope he doesn't call my insurance company.
Do you think he will call my insurance company?
Should I tell the rental car company (Enterprise) about the damage to the rental, even though it is not readily visible?
Thank you.

Since you already had extended coverage for the rental, then let Enterprise know. Otherwise, they discover it on their own, it may be perceived as a form of fraud.

Please check to see if the policy covered for loss of use. Many rental companies charge for loss of use during the time the vehicle is down for repair. However, the rental insurance usually covers the loss of use.

Based on the degree of damage to the other vehicle and the fact the guy took your insurance info, he most likely plans on calling. Insurance companies prefer you call them as opposed to finding out through the claimant.

Since you had a rental car, then you most likely have BOTH Collision (COLL) and Property Damage (PD) as rental car companies require you have that prior to renting. These are the coverages your policy would need for damage to be paid out. Contact your insurance agent to discuss the problem as that is the purpose and job of your agent.

Good luck!

When you rented the car, you signed a contract. you are bound by the terms of that contract. I am sure that there is a clause in it concerning being involved in an accident. Yes, im pretty sure that the other guy will call your insurance company. It was a very smart move on your part to have the extra insurance on the rental to cover damage.

Yes, you should come clean on this. I'm sure that the other guy will call your insurance. Think about it - wouldn't you call if someone damaged your vehicle, no matter how old it was. It's only right that you report this.

Yes, it is very important.

You don't want to end up with additional charges.
