Since the past year, I have dropped forty pounds. I have also gotten down to a 31 inch waist, but there is one thing hogging me: I can't get rid of any side fat. It's been in my way long enough. I eat right, and I run six days a week (at least three miles on my six running days). I cannot stress enough how much this bothers me. How can I get rid of it?

Sadly, you cannot spot reduce. It is simply not possible to reduce fat in just one part of your body. To reduce your overall level of body fat, try adding weights and/or resistance to your workout. You seem to be doing plenty of cardiovascular exercise so I would recommend lifting weights and building muscle to help burn body fat even when you're at rest. That would help tightening you up. Without having seen you, it is possible that what you think is fat might simply be excess skin. Now that you've lost weight, it is sagging. If that is the case, nothing will help short of surgery but I would still recommend adding weights to your workouts.

Try this "Trunk Twisting" exercise:

The setup for this exercise is simple! Put a bar or stick across your shoulders with your hands over the top and arms stretched out to the sides. Stand with your feet about a foot apart. Now begin to twist your upper body around to the left side.
Here is the key...while you are twisting, keep your head facing STRAIGHT FORWARD instead of turning your head along with your torso as you normally would. This is extremely important! If you turn your head, the exercise will be useless!
It's a good idea to do this exercise in front of a mirror (if you have one available), so you can see exactly what is going on. Look straight at yourself in the mirror and DO NOT move your head while you twist your torso (in fact, for a little extra squeeze, you can try to look as much as you can the OPPOSITE way).
Keep twisting all the way around until you've turned as far as you can. When doing this twist, try to tilt the bar down a bit towards the side you're twisting to. This helps to increase the activation of the obliques by bending the torso over to the side a bit.
At the height of the twist, squeeze the oblique area (right where your love handles are), contracting it AS HARD AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN and holding it for 3 to 5 seconds. This is the "money" part of the exercise. The actual twist only serves to get you into that position!
When you've squeezed everything out of the left side, rotate around to the right side and do the same thing.

you need to check your calories and your macros. one of the easiest ways to decrease body fat when you are getting regular exercise is to decrease the carb intake and increase the protein intake. this forces the body to utilize a greater amount of fatty acids for energy. shoot for 50% protein, 30% carbs and 20% fats. make all of your carbs low GI and high fiber, foods like beans, lentils, whole oats, etc. keep the majority of your carb intake to the first 2 meals and right before exercise. at night meals should be lean proteins and vegetables.

You might have excess skin. See a plastic surgeon and get some advice.

Good luck
