Why people especially female likes to keep their nail long?

I think women do it to do nice manicures with the white and pink.

I just keep them short...not a fan of dirt

Instead of biting your fingernails perhaps you could try biting your toenails and if you ever succeed you deserve a gold metal. The obsessions, self harm and mood disorder that you mention could be regarded as mental problems so perhaps you might want to post your question in the Mental Health section under Health.
