Dawn, thanks - i own, i have never rented furniture, but did buy a washer with their rent to own program. i asked the Q because my sister just rented a livingroom set....she is the happy hippy-ish sister who redecorates every 3 months.

I own the the furniture, well actually more like permanently borrowed it ....well maybe a little theft was involved ... however NO contracts were anywhere in sight when the merchandise came into my house.

If you need temporary furniture, rent it. If you are looking to buy do not go to the rent to own stores. You will pay at least three times the value of the furniture before you own it. And if you are late with a payment, many will send out a recovery team to come get it and you lose all you have paid. Buy used until you can afford to get what you want or buy from a reputable store wit a store credit card or a regular credit card. Best plan is to finance no more than half the cost. pay the rest up front. Set a budget first and put your planned payments up for a few months to see if you can actually make the payments while at the same time building your down payment.

I own mine, tried the renting thing when I first moved out on my own and it cost SO much more than just going and buying it out right... Its a really nice leather set, and I paid less than I would have if I continued to rent the other China junk... Dont waste your money, save up and buy it.

We own ours now. We rented ours one time and got screwed over. They were really nice, but I can find better things to spend my money on. Renting furniture is a rip off. You have a high monthly payment and a huge payoff. Why not just safe your money for 6 months and buy one out right? I would not recommend renting furniture to anyone...unless you need it for the weekend to impress someone=)

Own it - we have cats. There is too much of a chance of stuff happening to the furniture with those two around, so I don't want to take the chance messing up rental furniture.
