Because there are groups in Iraq who are trying to prevent a democratic government from being established. As long as there is a danger of the democraticly elected government colapsing, we have to keep our troops there to protect it.

Prior to the invasion of Iraq, the notion that alQadea was using the area as a base of operations was a figment of the imagination of some people in the US administration.
Today it is a horrible reality. We have created a monster that needs to be surgically removed from Iraq, because if we leave before eradicating this monster, then it will become a threat far worse than the monster from Afghanistan ever was.

There's been a civil war since the Sunnis lost power to the new Iraqi government. The United States is just policing at the moment right now.

What do you think would happen if someone came over here and bombed the crap out of EVERYTHING and killed or captured all of our Government? Wouldn't you want someone to stay and help you out until we could get someone else to organize things and keep people from tearing each other apart?

Secondary objectives.
Once we accomplish those, we will pin on more and more.
First Saddam, his sons, then zarkowi, then elections, then more elections, now something else.
We will add more and more secondary objectives to keep the contractors busy.

because bush failed to listen to his advisors when they said we couldnt maintain peace after the fact of saddam being removed.
So we sent too few troops in.
And we actually disasembled the military and policing agencies..which created the widespread chaos.
THOSE ARE THE FACTS!!!
The real question is...whs it Bush;'s intentions all along to do that intentionally....knowing that America will need to occupy with permanant bases or
was bush too stupid to listen and we are now paying for his arrogance?

In order for war-profiteers like Blackwater, Halliburton and the Carlyle Group to continue to reap huge profits paid to them by U.S. tax dollars. We're not supposed to "win" this war. We're supposed to expend as much capital as possible so those who orchestrated it can continue to make as much money as they want.
