I live in so. cal so not much snow but going to the mountains and they had snow recently so chains are required. Are there any better than the others or is there anything I need to know while driving with them or putting them on? Thx

Don't forget that you can also rent snow chains from most of the same shops that rent ski equipment. This may be a better choice if you don't intend to ever repeat the mountain trip.

However, if you think you MIGHT be going back, once or twice a year, it would be more cost effective to by a set and keep them in the trunk. They don't take up much room, and, you will never be caught in the mountains without a set when you need them.

I learned my lesson, several years ago. I was in Reno, in JUNE when a freak snow storm hit the Sierra Nevada Mountains. I was stuck for several hours before I could drive home.

Cable chains are best for all cars, especially for FWD. Buy them from a Tire store, they can show and explain them better than anyone on the internet can..

Sometimes the highways only require that you CARRY chains, then when it gets REALLY bad, they`ll require you to chain up.

The Tire store will have a bunch of brands to choose from, and help you with installing them..
