Simple truths, not to mention black & white moral choices, probably appeal to everyone. Religion can readily offer such things, though not always and it's possible for religion to present a more complex vision of reality. That seems to be the exception rather than the rule, which may be one reason why religion seems to succumb to dogmatism and absolutism more readily than other belief systems.

Even more serious than the desire for _easy_ answers, though, is the desire to possess the _only source_ of answers.
I would describe it as an insistence on a religious monopoly of knowledge. When there are alternatives to religious authorities, it's possible for people to make decisions outside the context of religion — and even worse, outside the boundaries of what religion considers acceptable. When there are sources of knowledge and authority outside of religion, it becomes possible for people to find out that religion is sometimes wrong.

Fear of complicated answers and alternatives sources of knowledge are, I believe, the fuel that drives imacatholic2 to the top.

My best guess on why I have the highest ranking in this category is that I have been here for a long time and have answered many, many questions. In addition, some people have selected or voted for my answer as best rather frequently.

I freely admit that I give rather simple answers. Yahoo! Answers is an ideal forum for simple answers. I can easily tell people why Catholics ask saints to pray for us or what the similarities between Catholic Christians and non-Catholic Christians are. In addition, I usually give references for further study so that the questioner can look deeper than my simple answers.

Many religions offer very complex visions of reality especially Catholicism. Unfortunately, Y!A is not a good forum for complex answers and long conversations. It would be impossible to discuss Saint John of the Cross’ “The Dark Night of the Soul” on Y!A.

There are six levels of spiritual maturity:
+ Information (lowest)
+ Knowledge
+ Intelligence
+ Understanding
+ Wisdom
+ Transformation (highest)

The majority of questions on Y!A concern information and knowledge. Even if there were questions about wisdom and transformation, it would be impossible to answer them in this venue thoroughly and adequately.

There are many other places to learn about complex moral and religious issues, as Paul encourages in Hebrews 6:1, "Therefore, let us leave behind the basic teaching about Christ and advance to maturity." However, Yahoo! Answers is not one of them.

With love in Christ.

So, what is this source of knowledge that is not religious or spiritual in nature? If not of that nature there may be a false assumption involved. Take care that discussion of science does not take the place of philosophy, and vice versa.
Complex sentence structure means nothing if the words interpreted say nothing. Sometimes people prefer to hear a simplified answer, at other times trickery rules.

Who knows. I can't seem to figure out how the rankings work myself. My previous ID was a level 6 with a 28% best answer rating and I didn't qualify for the leader board but was in the top 20 when they used to keep up with that. Not that I'm bitter at the trolls who attacked my account or anything.

Not going to happen... I'm laughing at you for saying Bush should resign because some high ranking officials resigned. Research it and yuo will see that more resigned under Clinton than under Bush, but I bet you didn't call for that sleazy scum to resign. Now be a good little liberal and go ask Osama what to say next in your jihad against Bush.

How often do you really see this mysterious person on here. I know of many users who are on here regularly and I've yet to see this person on line. So I'm wondering just how this person keeps at the top of the heap.

Because of his consistently brilliant answers, of course.
Not because he has multiple accounts and uses them to vote for his own answers, definitely not.

Not everyone is searching for the truth, just reassurance.

He himself told us why, a few months ago.."he has multiple accounts and he votes for his own answers as the best". Thats how.
