John Calvin created a vicious theocracy in which morality police were employed to control people's behavior. Citizens were harshly punished for a wide variety of moral infractions, including dancing, drinking, and generally being entertained. Theological dissidents were summarily executed, like Michael Servetus who was burned for doubting the Trinity. It isn't surprising that some of the nastiest Christians in America today, like Christian Reconstructionists, are unabashed Calvinists

I do not agree with the idea of morality police because I like treating adults like adults. Even if I think someone's behavior is going to send them to hell or do something else nasty to them, that's their choice. And some people think that "evil" is contagious, that if you let a few evil people dance they'll convince others to dance. Well, isn't that their choice too? We teach our children to distinguish between good and evil so they can make these choices for themselves as adults.

Second, I'm not a fan of any mortal or mortal organization claiming they know exactly what God thinks about every single action in our lives. That's rather arrogant. We can make informed guesses, and we should live by those informed guesses, but to turn informed guess into rigid law is, again, arrogant.

I'm a Fundamentalist and hate the idea of any type of Morality Police.

Why? Because who gets to decide the correct morals? It only works if your morals are the ones being enforced.

God gave us free-will for a reason. Morality police are yet another way to infringe totalitarianistic rule against fools stupid enough to not to realize that God said He would be the judge and we are not to judge others lest we be judged. I say, Folks just don't have enough to do!

We have them. Fortunately - for now - they have no power.
I heard it said of Calvin that he disapproved of sex because it might lead to dancing.
