Hey everybody, I'm doing a research paper on trains and I would like to know how the fare's are in places like Japan, Europe, and South America to those here in the U.S. Also, how efficient (in terms of emissions) are trains here and abroad? Thanks a lot.

I'm from the UK. When I've looked at Amtrak's site and worked out imaginary journeys for myself I am amazed how cheap its fares are compared with those here (mile for mile travelled) Our train fares are amongst the highest in the world.
