I think it's from Colombia. It's pronounced e-cot. They are super thin and very durable. You can use it as a blanket. I want to buy one but I don't know how to spell it. It's pronounced e-cot. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Try this: It's not really the name of a rug but it is a type of weaving used to make rugs and wall hangings.

Maybe Zapotec (Tapetes) rugs? Kinda sounds like e-cot on the end. But maybe you are thinking of this word "alpaca" which can be found at: http://www.alpacapetes.com/rugs/alpaca_rugs.asp
