This is tricky. The Pope is Christ's representative on earth but nobody can replace Christ. But true catholics believe that Christ is in everyone so that we should treat each other as if that person was Christ himself.

Who told you that? If you say "many members" you should have gone all over the world and ask about it. I haven't gone to mass always but I am a defender of my faith. Not a single word from books or from clergy that would mean "the pope equals Jesus Christ". If you dare to ask the validity of our existence (the Catholic Faith), then you should have gone through inside our world and see it for yourself if we ever PRAY TO THE POPE!

Perhaps you got this question after hearing "bully words" against Catholicsm from people not of the same colors. How can we acquire the majority of the believers if we are foolhardy enough?

The church might at any time in her 2 thousand year background have seen this style of assertion to be heretical. it variety of feels that the sole web pages that have the citation are protestant ones... not catholic ones. the actual coaching of the church is for that reason CCC 936 The Lord made St. Peter the seen commencing place of his Church. He entrusted the keys of the Church to him. The bishop of the Church of Rome, successor to St. Peter, is "head of the faculty of bishops, the Vicar of Christ and Pastor of the generally occurring Church on the earth" Vicar - one serving instead or agent; specifically : an administrative deputy (merriam-webster) for this reason the pope is at maximum serving christ instead until his 2nd coming. Or because of the fact the church places it, the pope is the seen head of the church, yet he's likewise below the invisible head the Lord Jesus Christ, invisible because of the fact he's in Heaven.

No. Not one single Catholic considers the Pope equal to Jesus. In fact, many either don't like the guy or ignore him. We pay far less attention to the Pope than Catholics of my mother's time did. Most Catholics find this sort of idea ridiculous and funny. That's how much we think of the Pope being equal to Jesus!

that is utter crap. the pope is a mere human. As the temporal head of the Catholic Church he is St Peter's successor. Jesus said to Simon "you are Peter! and upon this rock i will build my Church" Jesus did not say "you ar Peter therefore you are God" LOL, can you see how ridiculous your question is?

oh btw rukidding is a catholic with an attitude. he is mistaken in his belief that most catholics do not pay attention to the pope. He is loved and respected as the visible head of the Church and most Catholics take him very seriously.

Peace

I am a Catholic girl, and I somehow see that one could believe Christ and the Pope to be seen as equals, however Christ consists of opinions and could never be proven wrong, the Pope, not so lucky.

Absolutely not. Christ is eternal God. The pope is a human being just like you and me who was elected to a position, a job. His task is to be the visible human head of the Catholic Church, as our chief Pastor. He and the teaching offices of the church, are to lead, teach and Shepard God's people, (as Christ - the true and eternal head of the Church) would lead the whole catholic church; bishops, priests, lay persons and all baptized Christian who constitute the Church. He is a symbol also of Christ. He is not Christ. The pope sins and goes to confession like the rest of us. We are all human beings who come together to worship the Father Creator, the Son Redeemer and the Holy Spirit the Comforter-otherwise known as the Blessed Trinity-One God in three Persons. the pope is not divine.

Nope, most of them don't. I've been with an agnostic Catholic for over twenty years and I know he doesn't consider the pope but an 'on earth representative.' I'm not Catholic though and never will be, although I've seen how many of them react towards the pope.

Back in the Dark Ages when I was a Catholic, I never considered the pope anything but a man chosen by other men. Of course, I was never much of a Catholic, anyway, so...

No, we consider the Pope a representative of Jesus Christ on earth, but not equal.
