My dad recently found out that he has a daughter from a fling 17years ago. He asked the woman back then if he was the father and she said no. Well now this girl called my grandma and said, " I think your son is my dad."

She doesn't want anything from him except know who he is and be in his life, we think. We have started to talk to her and e-mail her. She seems really sweet. But now I think it would be akward to ask her for a paternity test.

My question is do ya'll think we should get one or is that fact that she looks a lot like him( and she does) enough??

The mother of the girl has nothing to do with this....she is not in the girls life. And the child support thing is not an issue....doesn't child support stop once they are 18...she is 17...that is 1 year away

I think it might help the process if both families have the black and white proof of this girl's paternity. This way your dad will be rest assured that he isn't going to get his heart broken by getting attached to this girl only to find out later that she is someone elses child. Given that she seems to be really sweet-natured and not after money etc from your dad, then I think she will happily do the paternity test because she has nothing to hide. Good luck for all involved.

DONT GET THE PATERNITY TEST.

The age of the parties puts her and the birth mother out of any possible shenanigans with child support at this point. The girl is virtually an adult.

My take is she's searching for a missing piece in her life, which she believes is your dad. She has apparently comfortably settled in to pleasant relationships with a few of you.

So let it go. Because a paternity test COULD destroy what may be an illusion on her part. If she loses your Dad as a father figure, where does she pick up the search again? She must know there's some doubt, yet she hasnt asked for a paternity test, has she?

I'd say let it go, the worst you could be doing is opening your home and family to a fatherless 17 yo girl.

the mother, 17 years ago, questioned the paternity of her own child, in other words she had no clue - or had several options to choose from - as to who the father of her child might be.
Now my question is why, after 17 years does she call up your g'ma and tell her she "thinks" he's the father? Its just that... she "thinks".
Yes its nice to know the woman is pleasent, sweet and everything, but before you guys get too attached to each other, and before she wants child support - you "think" thats not what she's after, she just wants a good father figure for her 16 year old kid, thats nice and all but next think she might be asking to help fund college or university.
Get the test, it will put everyone's mind at ease and you can all go from there. Tell this woman you are more then willing to be part of their lives, regardless of the outcome of the test.
And as far as looking like him, I'm sure a random unattached woman, in her healthy child reproducing years is more then capable of finding 3 men in one month with who she sleeps with that all are tall, with brown hair, blue eyes and high cheek bones. Think of all the men you know that fit that description... Its that easy. Get the test

This girl may not want anything now but when your Dad dies she will want a share of the inheritance. You will be sharing with her. Your Dad should ask her to get her DNA tested so he will know for sure. You are lucky she is a nice girl. She could be some druggie just out of rehab and would make your lives miserable. Good luck.

Get the paternity test. Tell her that you want it so she can be certain that he is her father. It is not bad of you to want it for the right reasons. I have had people tell me I look like someone else a lot. Paternity doesn't have everything to do with looks.

i could be deeply indignant and extremely injury, additionally very offended. it may surely make me question the courting. The paternity attempt element is a status humorous tale in our homestead however, our son seems plenty like his dad that that's comical. No Jeremy Kyle needed there!

A paternity test would resolve things. You have to be prepared for the results as well.

I would say get a test for her sake. It would be nice for her to know the truth. If you dad does one of the cheap take home test it should let them know and it would not be legal in court because they have no 'chain of custody'.

If your dad complains, just tell him, "If you didn't want this, you should have kept it in your pants."
