You can't turn gay, you either are or you aren't. Gay is a sexuality, a state of mind and body, it can't be induced. You mena the physical act, I'm guessing. SO You should have asked "Would you perform a gay sex act to save your family's life?"
And that would have been a really immature and slightly pathetic thing to say.
