because people making it dont even give a crap because they are not going to eat it. if your talking about school lunch its because the schools are too damn cheap to give the students at least a decent meal. also people try to make as much as they can, and at the same time, spending the least amount of money.

Because its not fresh, all-natural, home-cooked food. It's usually packaged, canned, or frozen and filled with artificial preservatives and flavoring. The food is then microwaved and consequently denatured.
The lunch ladies don't cook, they just assemble, warm, and serve the food. My piece of advise: avoid lunch food at all costs!

It's prepared in bulk, from cheapest ingredients without love.
Just about the opposite of what your mother tries to do.
It's high in fat & carbs, not protein, also kept hot for hours.
Schools are not in the food business for profit.

because they arent worried about flavor or healthyness. Its all about producing as much as needed as cheaply as possible.
