This statement is found in the Bible, and even if you don't except the Bible as being inspried by a Higher Intelligence, their is much wisdom to be found there, I think.
By the way Buddha, also refers to this state to be necessary for enlightenment.

You just become teachable.
Matthew 18:18 In that hour the disciples came near to Jesus and said: “Who really is greatest in the kingdom of the heavens?” 2 So, calling a young child to him, he set it in their midst 3 and said: “Truly I say to YOU, Unless YOU turn around and become as young children, YOU will by no means enter into the kingdom of the heavens. 4 Therefore, whoever will humble himself like this young child is the one that is the greatest in the kingdom of the heavens;

To become as young children, exemplifies to become trusting and teachable.

As in most things .. the whole sentences before & after would be needed to give a correct interpretation.

A person .. or their spirit, or soul .. should be humbled to that like a child. When this likeness happens .. the person is more receptive for everything .. such as learning, acceptance, to do the right Will, the right heart, innocence, etc.

Ever heard the saying .. "it would be like taking candy from a baby" ?? ... meaning - it would be easy to do. So think of the presence of a child .. and how easily they can be managed by an adult. Adults are not so easily managed.

When people get older .. their person goes to another place .. they think in a different matter .. some of the thinking can be arrogant, haudy, knowing-all ... but when the person goes back to the likeness of a child - - all these things go away like vapor ... and innocence can appear ... kinda like a clean(er) slate .. and any process can just be easier .. thus - the likeness of a child .. open, easy & receptive ... which is often needed for things such as with purity of heart things.

this entire problem is disgusting,such an excellent style of cuts for us user-friendly human beings yet such an excellent style of rises for them,this is an absolute shame! maximum everybody is fortunate to work out a small pay upward thrust,many take a decrease of their wages to save their jobs and each and each of the even as facilities alongside with the NHS,policing and practise are suffering because our united states of america is meant to be so undesirable,humorous how this is not any longer undesirable for the MP's. I somewhat do not comprehend how any of them can ask for the regular public to vote for them even as they are doing this,i'd be out to vote on the subsequent regular election even though it is going to in basic terms be to wreck a paper with 'not one of the above'.

Remember how easy it was to be fooled into believing Santa brought all those gifts? That's what it means: be innocent and don't notice that the wool is being pulled over your eyes. After all, it's for your own good!

Children are humble. This passage was a very good explaination to Jesus' disciples of the need for them to be humble. You see, they were again arguing about which of them would be the greater. Human imperfection caused them to put emphasis on position or rank in all their dealings. Instead Jesus told them to return to humility as children are characteristically modest and free from ambition and who generally have no thought of rank among themselves.
