It all Depends on the sponsorship of immigrant visa.
If your sponsor is US Employer, the waiting period is 3 to 8 yrs depending on the sub categories based on skill levels and depending the country of your birth.
If your sponsor is US Sibling, the waiting period is 10 to 15 yrs depending on your birth country. 22 yrs if you were born in Philippines.
If your sponsor is your spouse or parent who is Permanent Resident, the waiting period is 3 to 4 yrs (spouse), 8 to 9 yrs (parent) based on subcategory and country of birth. 15 yrs (parent) if you were born in Mexico.
If your sponsor is US Citizen parent and you are over 21 of age but unmarried, the waiting period is 5 yrs or 15 yrs if you were born in Mexico or Philippines.
If your sponsor is US Citizen spouse or US Citizen and you are under 21 of age, the waiting period is 6 to 8 months for conditional green card and 2 yrs for unconditional permanent resident card. In this category, you can apply and become US Citizen1 more year after your green card.
