The Golden Compass is authored by a writer who is a self-proclaimed Atheist and it is said that he uses his writing as a means to promote Atheism. Christians oppose the movie because it is based on these books, which speak of "killing God."

This is not to say I agree with banning anything from schools, but I do feel that parents should have the choice to choose whether or not their children participate in things that promote values that go against their own. Let them read the books if that's what they want to do, let the parents choose to remove their children.

From schools? I would agree the the golden compass should not be shown in schools. But I don't think it is. Do you mean the school library? If that is the case, EVERY book that deals with religion on any level should be banned.

Well, I'm a Christian, and I'm not. I could care less if kids read that book. Careful when lumping us all together. That's stereotyping, and it makes you sound bigoted. In answer to your question, some are upset because the author publicly announced that he intended the book as atheist propaganda. I don't think that means the book should be banned, because it is a free country and it is not like little kids can tell the difference anyway, but that is their point-of-view. If I cared that much, I'd just ask my kid not to read it. A lot of people are obviously overreacting.

Don't generalize. I'm a Christian and I think the Golden Compass is as harmless as Narnia.

because school is no place for religous movies. why can't the schools just do their job and teach the kids abc's and 123's. and let them decide religous matters elsewhere instead of trying to bash christianity, ( or promote religions for that matter).
