It is not doing any good.
12 years prior to this, there was a chance to do the right thing, the world was united, and the re-capture of Kuwait could have led to a swift segregation of Iraq, and peacekeeping forces from all the nations involved in the action.
However the politicians ordered the troops out of Iraq, and when they went back in, they went in without a clear exit plan. There is a stupid mentality that wants to keep the Kurds, Sunni and Shia's united in a democratic country, and to be frank, it’s a shambles.
Russia was building schools and Hospitals in Afghanistan in the 1980's, when America decided to arm the most militant idiots they could find. America wanted to give Russia a Vietnam, and it was this stupidity in giving modern weapons and training to the Mujahideen, which has caused the present security issues.
Afghanistan was the cause of 9-11 but Sadam was using American weapons to kill Iranians long before he became the bad guy. Because of fears that revolutionary Iran would defeat Iraq and export its Islamic Revolution to other Middle Eastern nations, the U.S. began giving aid to Iraq. From 1983 to 1990, the U.S. government approved around $200 million in arms sales to Iraq.
American politicians have caused millions of innocent deaths in Proxy wars to de-stable the former Soviet Union and Communist regimes in South America, and having sewed the seeds, are now reaping the whirlwind. But the fat rich politicians who took the campaign funds to support US arms manufactures are not the ones who are asked to send their sons over to bleed and mop up the mess.
the invasion of Afghanistan was caused by US terroist actitivities. As part of a Cold War strategy, in 1979 the United States government (under President Jimmy Carter and National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski) began to covertly fund and train anti-government Mujahideen forces through the Pakistani secret service known as Inter Services Intelligence (ISI). In order to bolster the local Communist forces, the Soviet Union—citing the 1978 Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Good Neighborliness that had been signed between the two countries—intervened on December 24, 1979.
The mujahideen won when the Soviet Union pulled troops out of Afghanistan in 1989, followed by the fall of the Mohammad Najibullah regime in 1992. However, the mujahideen did not establish a united government, many of the larger mujahideen groups began to fight each other, and they were in turn ousted from power by the radical splinter group known as the Taliban in 1996. This was the nutters that the US had identified as the best group to send cahs and weapons too.
After several years of this fighting, a village mullah organized religious students into an armed movement, with the backing of Pakistan, who was being funded by the United States, which found the existing government to be too Russian-influenced, even following the collapse of the Soviet Union. This movement became known as the Taliban, meaning "students", and referring to the Saudi-backed religious schools known for producing extremism. With each success the Taliban had, their popularity and numbers grew.
By 2001, the Taliban, with backing from the Pakistani ISI (military intelligence) and possibly even the regular Pakistan Army, had defeated most of the militias and controlled most of Afghanistan. The remaining militias were in the north-east of the country. Suddenly the Us realised that they may have made a little mistake.. oops
The opposition allied themselves together and became known as the National Islamic United Front for the Salvation of Afghanistan — the United Front, or Northern Alliance. In 2001 with new U.S. and International military aid, they ousted the Taliban from power and formed a new government under Hamid Karzai.
Wake up, smell the roses America. Clinton stopped the cash support of Israel, and the peace process started. Bush Jr needed the Jewish vote, so re-supplied Israel with billions, and hey presto, there was war again. Likewise, George W. just wanted to avenge his daddy’s tormentor, and divert criticism away from home. A good war or two helps keep the patriot fools happy, and stops them asking where all the rest of federal funds are disappearing.
And before you start to name drop, I have been to Israel, the West Bank, and The Balkans and fought for my country in the Falklands. I am ashamed to be British for the first time in my life, and despite having a pride in the British army, and not in support of them having to clean up the political mess that Blaire and Bush dropped them into. They deserve more respect than that, and should be used more intelligently. Not to clean up the mess that US funded 'terroism' has created.

NO the military men and women are NOT stupid. and how can you speak for the american and the iraqi people, you are one person, you dont have the right to speak for everyone. especially the iraqi people because obviously you havent been there and seen it so you have no clue. yeah there are insurgents that dont want us there, but there are so many other iraqis that see all the positive things that we are doing and they want us there. and also, even if the americans and the iraqis didnt want the military there, they dont really have a choice in the matter. when you join the military you take an oath and you are subject to rules that require you to obey orders from your superiors. so if Bush, the chief of the army says that they have to be there, then they have to be there. stop dissing the soldiers when you have NO IDEA what you are talking about.

I'm not a warhawk...just the wife of a "citizen soldier" serving in Iraq. He trains Iraqi security forces. He and his unit are doing a lot of good. They are TEACHING these men (and some kids as young as 16!) to be able to police their own country. To keep it safe and at the very least, keep their own neighborhoods safe. We are making it so these people don't have to live in fear everyday for the rest of their lives.

Despite what other people may think, the truth is that we are definetely "cleaning up" Iraq. Iraq is much quieter and less violent than before, just take it step by step and that ought to do it.
Right now, we are hated by the world......but when we finally restore peace to iraq and maybe even to all of the middle east, it will be worth it.
People think that america is soo corrupted to the point that they would send ppl to die for oil; that doesnt even make sense because prices are going up for everything everywhere.
No, dont beleive the "oil, "bush finishing his father's job", or any other crazy rumor u heard. I personally don't think this war benefits us in ANY way, and that's why alot of ppl are against this war right now.
But bush is doing something that supports the world right now. United States have done alot to help other countries, and this is just one of them.
Not only are the soilders restoring peace to the middle east, we are keeping terrorists at bay (thats why there hasn't been alot of terrorist attacks lately), b/c terrorists are too busy trying to kill us in Iraq.
So, be thankful for the soilders that die for us today.

Well it seems that the troop increase is decreasing the amount of civilian deaths. And according to Time magazine and a slew of other sources, Al-Qaida in Iraq is on the run...
That said, I say we bring them home, and not just from Iraq (which they never should have gone there in the first place.) Get them out of Japan, Korea, all of Europe, Africa and South America!

Take a trip to Bethesda and ask the troops themselves. You have clearly led an extremely sheltered life. Perhaps meeting some of the ones who have actually done the good would give you some perspective.

Tragically, the lack of accentuating the positive in Iraq serves two purposes:
It is intended to undermine the world's perception of the United States
thus minimizing consequent support,
and it is intended to discourage American citizens

hey Pinko. . .talk to the guys/gals who have been there.
(Then again - most of you who pontificate have not only NEVER been there but don't even KNOW a patriot.
We freed them from a murdering brutal dictator - re the MANY Kurds and the millions of his own citizens brutalized by Saddam, his sons, and his regime.
By fighting the Taliban we at least made a dent in the brutalization and abuse of women.
protecting the lives of the innocent citizens over there.
Keeping the battle off the US Soil.
If Clinton had done that instear of wagging the dog - there may have been no 9-11 attacks
JOE - THANK YOU - for your work and spreading the word
