Absolutely! When you pray you are in a quiet, thoughtful state just as if you were meditating. Prayers are directed generally to a deity, god, or spirit while meditation just focuses your thoughts on peacefulness.

Meditation is defined a little differently by different non-profit religions.

In the non-profit religion of Christianity, prayer can be a form of meditation.

The idea, as I understand it, is that right thoughts produce right actions and right consequences.

So a prayer which has good ideas is a form of meditation.

Old Testament ideas:

Righteousness, lovingkindness, mercy, beauty, truth, salvation, etc.

New Testament ideas:

Repent, grace, peace, wholeness, kindness, etc.

Actually, meditation is a form of prayer, instead of the other way around. Prayer is merely speaking to God. Period.

God bless!

I think it can be to an extent.

Meditation is about focusing the mind on one thing. E.g. in breathing meditation, one focuses on e.g. the tactile sensation of the breath on the upper lip.

When a person prays, they are focusing on a few things. E.g. a Christian might pray to Jesus to protect children in Africa. So he or she would maybe be focusing on Jesus + an idea of children in Africa + feeling compassion for them + mentally requesting Jesus to help. So that's like 4 things.

The fact that he or she is focusing on a small number of things, and then staying focused for a certain amount of time, whilst trying not to get distracted by thoughts of supper or tv or whatever - well it seems like meditation to me.

It could be, depending on what your prayers consist of. Mostly though the word refers to studying, think deeply on any scriptural ideas expressed that may be new to you - how you might personally apply Scriptural counsel more fully

Sometimes, if it involves focus and clearing your mind. Drolling out scripted words in a prayer would be something completely different.
