Pullman confesses to be "atheist/agnostic" and says he hates the propaganda of the Narnia books. Conservative Christians read stories on the internet about the books being "atheist" and start burning them. Actually the "Magesterium" in the books is supposed to be a metaphor, not for Christianity but for religious/political organisations which develop too much control. Many thought it was supposed to be the Catholic church. But Pullman did not comment.

They are very good books you should read them.
Don't allow others to sway you, read and then form your own opinion.

Fox News spread the lie that the book is about a girl that goes on a quest to kill God. It's completely untrue, of course; she's actually on a quest to save her friend from the evil group that has kidnapped him. This is not to say that Christians have no reason to be offended, they just are offended for the wrong reason.

It IS an anti-religion book. It's especially anti-organized-religion. Much of it criticizes the Catholic Church. But it's not anti-religion in the way a lot of people think it is, and people shouldn't protest books or movies for saying things they disagree with, IMO.

It's essentially a war on god throughout the book, they try to redo the way that the story of adam and eve went, to reverse the original sin. This is against Christianity technically, but if you're open-minded, and don't take this as a stab on religion, it's an amazing book

In the 3rd book the children kill a god like being. The books are a bit anti-religious, but the movie has been toned down.

I don't know, I haven't seen it yet. But after I see it, I will be able to talk about it in a way that many people wont. I know that there are many other Christians who wont see it, but I am not someone who will do that, if I can help it.

I know what people are complaining about, but I won't let that deter me. I like to know things that many other Christians are too afraid to know.

that is what is so deceptive about it- you can barely see what is wrong with it- It reminds me, through the ads, to be a lot like Narnia- however what the third book is about, according to what I have seen, I have not read it- is that the god-like character is killed and evil wins- even the author said that he was an atheist and wanted to write something that contradicted biblical truth. I may see it with my family and talk about it afterwards with them - but if this is true- why do you think we would think it offensive?

I don't know. I am not interested in it (not for religious reasons). But I can bet all my money the people who made the movie made sure they "leaked out" it's non Christian attitude. So all the Christan's would take the bait and start protesting = big money making film.

The Golden Compass gives you directions of which way to exit a Golden Shower, so it is not considered approiate for all Christian readers.

I think It is because christians don't want children to be drawn to the books which contain atheist anti-christian stances on the world. There is a character named God in which they kill in an epic battle.

Also they don'tperceptions on parralell universes.
However paralell universes are very plausible

Christians believe in intelligent design and the law of entropy. meaning that the world finite.

In an allegorical form, the main characters kill god ("dust:") The author flat out said that it was the about athesisim and the Anti-narnia( a very christian book series) series.

I don;t find it offensive I mean it's a book. . . . but those are the facts.
