open office or abiword ..

I think you'll get like 20 replies all saying the same thing....

BUT, if you're buying a NEW PC, many vendors will sell you the computer with MS WORKS installed on it without charge.
I know Dell does.
Works comes with a word processor and spreadsheet application and can view MS Word documents (not sure about office 2007 format)

and download Open Office.

It duplicates almost all features of Microsoft. It is FREE and it will store in Microsoft format to take work to the office or school.

There is a good one out there similar to MS Word for free and it is called Jarte, I sometimes use it as an alternative to MS Word.
Try it out.
