Before you quote me any scriptures about not tempting God, read 1 Kings Chapter 18, if Elijah could prove his God was the true God why can't Christians prove it

for those saying this is the OT and "signs" no longer apply, it's ironic that these "signs" no longer apply to us today. If something in the Bible is to hard to believe the answer is always, "that no longer applies to us today"

Because he's not the one true God. There is NO God, true or otherwise.

There are no (absolute) proofs for, or against, the existence of God.

Proof is a tricky word. Many people think that proof establishes something is an absolute fact. That's not often the case; at least, not in the everyday world.

In jurisprudence and science, a reasonable basis for proof is based on solid evidence and the absence of any known contradiction. There's a "reasonable person" standard which defines proof as "beyond a reasonable doubt". The test of time fortifies proofs.

You say there are no unicorns? Prove it. You see? ABSOLUTE proof is an illusion -- especially when trying to prove a negative, such as "There is no God".

However, rephrasing the assertion from "There is no God", to "God is imaginary", makes proof easier, using the "reasonable person" standard. We can't ABSOLUTELY prove it but we can prove it beyond a reasonable doubt.

Consider this . . .

No matter where man has spread, he as created countless gods. From aboriginal Australians to tribal Africans to American Indians to ancient Egyptians . . . they've all created gods prolifically and with ease. That man creates gods is a well-known, indisputable fact.

But what about the opposite? God creating man? We DON'T know that he did. We have no evidence that he did. We have no reason to think that he did. All the evidence points to evolution over the course of billions of years. There's growing evidence that life originated from abiogenesis -- from an electro-chemical reaction in the primordial soup of early Earth.

So, with countless thousands of gods to man's credit, believers are in the untenable position of asserting that all the gods that came before and after theirs are false . . . but their own god (and religion) is real and true. Asserting that one's own god is real, when we know that man created all the others, is ridiculous. It is so unlikely that we can safely consider it delusional.

Man has created countless thousands of gods and YOURS (if you believe) has NO evidence. That, my friend, qualifies God’s existence as dubious, at best, and faith in him as misguided and misplaced. Based upon the preponderance of evidence, the assertion that "God is imaginary" meets the reasonable person standard for proof and has withstood the test of time for thousands of years.

I think it is because some people just assume that some lazy fat guy wote the Bible and not God. They can't comprehend the mericlas that God (Jesus) performed. we were just studing that about Elijah and he had God to prove it for him. God wants us to have faith that he is real not just a fat lazy guy in a chair writing stories. I know it's really hard to understand but when you get to heaven you'll understand just fine. By the way I am a Christian so I not crazy, I do know what I am talking about and I really hope this helps you out at least a little. ~Thanks

Elijah was OT, and if you notice God was pretty active then, there were miracles and blessings and *signs* performed almost every waking moment of time..... The Bible makes it so very plain that the Jew was a people of signs, they wanted them so they got them, not so with us today.... We are a people under grace and of *faith*...... yes, miracles DO happen, but ONLY when they are Gods will !!! that is about all there is to say about it...... go in peace..... God bless

Elijah was proving that the false gods of the ancient pagans were false. These false gods were similar to Jesus, in that they were men turned into gods, or their gods turned into men.

Elijah was proving that God is not a man, God is not a stone, or a tree, or anything created. God is God, the Creator, not that which is created (such as man).

God is not a man, as it says several times in the Torah. To turn God into a man, or to make a man be God, is idolatry.

There is not now, and never has been such a concept in Judaism that the Messiah is God. In Judaism, the Messiah is born of a married Jewish man and wife in the usual way, not from some god swooping down and impregnating a virgin. A god impregnating a virgin comes from ancient paganism, not Judaism.

No, it doesn't say OR mean "virgin" in the Torah, it says "almah" which means "young woman". All women back then who gave birth were young women. The word "almah" does not mean virgin.

The word for virgin is "betulah" which is used many times in the Torah when speaking about a woman who is a virgin. This is NOT the word used in Isaiah when talking about a young woman shall give birth.

Again, there has never existed the concept of a Messiah who is God, in Judaism. The Church adopted this idea from ancient paganism, not Judaism.

For more information on the circumstances of the real Messiah's birth, his role, what he does in life, what prophecies he is to fulfill, as given by God Himself on Mt. Sinai (rather than what the Church fathers later invented or borrowed from paganism) please see the following links.

P.S. By the way, miracles are NOT a criteria by which God gave to judge who is the Messiah and who isnt. This is because:

1. Even the Egyptians could do miracles such as raising the dead, etc. So did several sages in the Torah, long before Jesus. None of these were the Messiah, and their miracles should not be construed as meaning that they were.

2. In the end of days, the Anti-Messiah will do many miracles to convince people that he is the real Messiah. The Jews, who were trained BY GOD to not take miracles into consideration when deciding who is the Messiah, will not be fooled. However, many non-Jews will be fooled, because they look at miracles as a sign of the Messiah, incorrectly.

The one and ONLY criteria that the real Messiah will have, is that he fulfills each and every one of the ORIGINAL 16 or so prophecies given by God on Mt. Sinai. There are not hundreds of prophecies - these were invented by the Church, back-engineered into the Torah taking verses out of context and giving them false meanings, making prophecies where none exist. These false prophecies are completely irrelevant.

Jesus failed to fulfill even ONE of the original (and still the only true) prophecies. Not even one. And there is no such thing as a "second coming". This, once again, is a Church invention and does not exist in what God gave on Mt. Sinai, at all. The true Messiah fulfills each and every one of those original prophecies DURING HIS LIFETIME, or he was not the Messiah. Period.

There have been thousands of claimants who have come claiming to be the Messiah. The very same criteria that God taught the Jews on Mt. Sinai, was applied to each and every one of them, including Jesus. Not one of them has fulfilled the prophecies. Including Jesus.

You've got the wrong guy.

P.S.S. The laws in the Torah (old testament) NEVER applied to non-Jews, except for the 7 Noahide laws. There were never any penalties or punishments for non-Jews who didn't follow the rest of the laws in the Torah, because the laws didn't apply to them.

The Church teaches that Jesus freed you from the laws in the Torah. This is a lie. You cannot be freed from something you were never bound by in the first place, can you. There is nothing to free you FROM.

The ONLY laws that ever applied to non-Jews in the Torah are the 7 Noahide Laws. And these still apply to all non-Jews and they are in fact found in every society and culture from ancient times until now.

In fact, these 7 Noahide Laws are THE ONLY PATH by which non-Jews are to merit their place in the World To Come.

Neither Jesus nor anyone else has ever freed non-Jews from the 7 Noahide Laws.
http://www.noahide.org

Nor did Jesus "fulfill" any laws, any more than stopping at a red light means that from now on, that law has been "fulfilled" and you no longer have to obey it. Not too smart, eh? Watch out for the lies taught by the Church.

You've mentioned one of my favorite stories. I can just hear Obadiah, when Elijah told him to go back to Ahab, "Say what?" he must have thought.
But to answer your question, Elijah was one of God's great prophets. It was the prophets, the patriarchs, and the apostles who gave us the scriptures, but they themselves didn't have the Bible, only the law. There is no need for Christians to prove God. God Himself proves His sovereignty to those to whom He chooses to reveal it.

You see, as a Christian, I am not charged with any duty to prove God, nor to bring people to God, nor to change anyone's mind about God (although sometimes it's fun to try). My charge is to proclaim the crucified Christ, and let the holy Spirit do the rest.

Are you looking for miracles on demand from christian? just say so!

We know that God is doing amazing things all through the world....and of course its not broadcast on your evening news..why? because the world doesnt receive the goodness of God....and can God heal the neighbor across the street? absolutely....does he do it just cause you want him to prove himself? absolutely not.....without faith it is impossible to please God, before you come to him you must believe that HE is!! He is a rewarder of those who DILIGENTLY SEEK HIM!!

You cant prove God.

Jesus isnt the one true God. Jesus, according to the Bible, was the son of God.

God doesn't want people to prove he is there. If people knew that he was there it wouldn't be FAITH. He wants people to have faith in him. If you want proof for yourself, get saved, and filled with the Holy Spirit.
