Then don't go into psychiatry, go into psychology. The first one requires an MD degree, the second less stress in the sciences, math, chemistry, and the rest of them. You end up doing about the same thing, but psychologists cannot prescribe medications.

Yes you do, psychiatrists are MD's so they have to take a lot of science classes. You will have to take several years of chemistry, biology, anatomy, pharmacology, etc. You will need to be very very good at science as well as math. Unless you are very good at both and really want to be a doctor, you should probably consider something else. There are other medical professions where the work is not as intense and somebody that is not great in science could get by.

I second that... what's most important is doing what you love. If you love psychiatry to the point that it's the first thing on your mind when you wake up and last thing when you go to bed, then you'll find a way to make it work. Don't let anyone else tell you that you can't make it.

You need to LOVE what you're doing. Getting a medical degree takes more than just an "I THINK I wanna' take something in the medical field." In some cases, I know doctors who study at least 4 hours a day..in some cases, even 12 or more.

psychiatry is a medical specialty, so yes you first have to have enough science background to get into medical school as a pre-med or bio major

then you would have to do the extra studies to qualify for the specialty

Have to be pretty good at science.

Even more important, however, is to be good with people and be willing to work hard!
